Shawn and I will be leaving for Granny Grose's Buses #11 on Thursday Morning. If anyone wants to Caravan with us let us know.
You don't have to have a bus just bring a tent.
We will make stops along the way for gas aand food.
!hug
-
I took Thursday off. I'll be caravaning with you.
-
Great Greg skid))
-
I believe Rose and Tyler are too.
-
Great, Great.... skid)) skid)) skid)) skid))
-
4thinking6 Anyone else going?
-
The current plan seems to be that Emma and I will drive up Thursday in the bug (carabusabug) with you guys, I will return Friday and collect the rest of my tribe and return Friday late afternoon in the Westy (with canoe)
Erik
-
Sounds like a plan Erik dance$#
-
Not to be the Debbie Downer, I'm good at it, but isn't that going to be a lot of driving?
-
I have done it several times.
Yes, it is a bit of driving but it's the only way I can have my family participate while enjoying maximum granny exposure.
-
Awesome!
-
Truth be told, I enjoy that ride, I really like being part of a carabus and I don't ever get to drive the bug to camping events clown
-
I enjoyed the drive too... Especially surviving the mountain!
-
We did that the first year it moved to Millmont. Kind of exciting in the dark on the way down with the brakes stinking away and mostly non-existent by the bottom. Diesels don't engine brake so much because there is no throttle plate (hence the "exhaust brake device" on tractor trailers). asttound
-
Are you still bringing an instrument?
-
It's in two week! I'm so excited. It'll be a great break before my new job!
-
Yay, we are going on Thursday too! It's gonna be a good time!
-
Trying to rig the bus so I can go.
-
Stop over Greg I'll try to help you.
-
Bus isn't running to get there.
-
What route are you guys taking Thursday? Where do you plan to eat lunch and when?
-
Down through Deleware, that's all I know.
-
Theyre following us Jack
-
I need to make the engine start first. Might just put a hot wire on a switch from the battery to the coil. Hopefully you guys can walk me through diagnosing the issues I'm having with the electrical. I ran a wire from the battery to the coil and buzzzz off the fuel pump went. I just don't get why the starter portion of the switch works, but the power to the coil does not.
-
bad coil?
-
New coil, it's something up front. Muir says to hook up a jumper from the coil to the voltage regulator and see if it turns over that way. I thought the voltage regulator worked with the key too?
-
What route are you guys taking Thursday? Where do you plan to eat lunch and when?
Via Lancaster, PA RT 15/11 Stop for lunch Waaay after Lancaster, same place we always do. And No the Turnpike isn't faster.
-
Do you guys have an approximate idea when you will come off of the Delaware Memorial Bridge? Do you take 141 and exit at Boxwood Road onto 41? Trying to get a sense of the best place to connect along the route.

Shawn should post an Itinerary before the trip, I think we hit the bridge around 10am. I think we take 141 t0 30 and stop at a WAWA there for food and gas.

I bought the season PA license. Grannies, Vanagons in the Valley & Busses by the Depot, all have great spots
I figured 3 trips was worth it....definately not 1

Jack and I will depart the Jackastle at 0900
We will arrive at the pull-off on the right hand side just past the toll booth on the Delaware Mem Bridge Just before 10:00.
We leave at 10:00 sharp. Supposedly we will have Tyler, Greg and (maybe) Y&M in tow
Let me know if you want to caravan with us.......
We go down through Newport De and head up Gap pike
Next stop is the Wawa in Gap PA. Its just a quick stop, although some top off the tanks.
Its around noon-ish when we pull out.
We go Rt 30 west to 283.
283 takes us to 322 west.
As soon as we cross the Susquehanna river we head north on Rt 15 along the river
up a little ways on the right is Angies Family Restaraunt
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Angie's+Family+Restaurant/@40.462113,-76.95503,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x89c8d010148f1431:0x6c79233f57416d2?hl=en
More to come.......
-
Part II THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! Do not take Rt 235 there is a bus-killer of a mountain pass that only an idiot would take on purpose
Here's the way to prevent shaving 3 years off your VWs life:
Heading on Route 15 North. GPS will tell you to take 235 off Rt15. BUT I suggest to follow Rt15 and turn Left onto Route 104. Follow 104 through Middleburg. Continue on 104 until Red Ridge Road.
Turn Left onto Red Ridge Road. Turn Left onto Creek Road and follow to campground entrance.
-
Good job Shawn dance$#
-
If you aim for the striped parking area that is on the left as you exit the toll booths in Delaware, you can safely stop and get out to check Greg's turn signals and people meeting you in Delaware (Emma and me) can easily get to the meeting point from route 9. There is also a merge lane so we can get up a head of steam before entering traffic.

-
Hoping dad Yucel and I will figure the wiring out.
Yucel seems to think it has to do with the front parking/turn signals.
-
That is not what I said...Actually, I think it might be the hazard switch or flasher relay. We will find out...
-
Thanks Shawn! I was just checking out the map.... looks like we are going to meet you at Angie's. That's a lot of extra driving from the Nacle. Are you sure it takes 2 hrs to get to Gap from the bridge? Just trying to estimate what time you'll be getting to the restaurant...
-
Does that mean we'll have to deal with that big a** hill in DE with a million lights on it like we did last year?!
-
This from the man who climbed the "Hill of Death" leaving Granny's last year?
-
Ok folks, last weekend till GGB11. This is the weekend to button up any problems with your bus and give it a wash/vacuum & oil change.
-
Does that mean we'll have to deal with that big a** hill in DE with a million lights on it like we did last year?!
You will - I won't. devil)-
-
LOL @ "hill of death" references ROFL)
VW Bus = Tree Climber
Our bus safely climbed Mt. Washington, the Rockies, Mt. Rainier , Mt St Helens, Green Mountains, Cascades mountains, Cadillac Mountain(awesome view),the Pacific Coast Highway and a dozen other giant/steep mountains (yes its air-cooled and no it didn't break down*)
1/2 the battle is HOW you drive the hills/mountains.
What really grinds my gears is hills with lots of lights, "hill of annoying lights"
*Bus lost a fan belt on PCH on our way into San Fran
-
for me the first year at Millmont it wasn't the climb but the trip down the other side and the minimal brakes left at the bottom of the hill despite my best efforts to use them sparingly.
Went to adjust the rears the other day only to tear a significant gash out of the Swiss cheese formerly known as the backing plate. So instead of getting to visit with you guys over there I'm swapping out the right rear brake assembly violin&
-
The DE hill was worse than the hill in PA... That I accidently took. I hate being on a hill with lights with an asshat right on my bumper.

What Delaware hill? theres no Delaware hill 4thinking6
-
Erik, Tyler and myself disagree. Steady incline for at least a half mile.
-
Thats in PA...Avondale. Piece of cake, and there's no lights on it
-
There was traffic then when we were on it. I still don't get why we aren't taking the turnpike.
-
Its not faster...
Its a nicer drive...
Its more direct...
Your 50 year old engine isn't running on the ragged edge for 3 hours straight...
-
I will make some chili-mac for Saturday night since that seemed to go over well at FYBO.
