Title: Dirt Road Campout Feeler
Post by: Beetleboi -Greg- on February 26, 2016, 11:48:24 pm
Hey Guys,

So I've been trying to do this Campout for years now. Mostly due to my laziness to check it all out, it hasn't happened. I'd love to do it this year.
I'd like to see if any of you would be interested in this sort of thing. If any of you can help me figure this all out it would be awesome!

Game Plan:

There are several roads to choose from... We would scout out the most scenic ones, or the ones where we would be less likely to have issues.

Day 1 (Friday)
- Meet at Michelle and Yucel's and head out towards the Caranza Memorial
- Continue South on the Caranza Rd till it turns into Hawkings Bridge Road
Option 1:
- Spend a night at "Wharton State Park Camping Area" (Lite set ups, or maybe just cook over fire)
Option 2:
- Continue down Hawkings Bridge Rd towards Godfried Bridge Road
- Spend a night at "Godfried Bridge Campground"
- River tubing could happen here...

Day 2 (Saturday)
- Have breakfast and pack
- Take Washington Turnpike to Washington/Quaker Bridge Road
- End at Atsion
- Spend the night at Atsion

This will be a relaxed pace drive, the idea is to get closer to nature. Sure we could take regular roads, but a lot of us haven't experience dirt road travel in the woods.

Let me know what you think, If it's not your thing or you don't want to chip paint I completely understand.

 Beet..
You ought to know that Nutten in this State is free...
I believe that your need a camping permit. They can be had from the Batsto office. While there you can pickup a handful of trail maps..

I'm up for the trip/campout but not the planing of it. some of the roads are VERY bad so checking them out would be a must..............John Pickens does a cruise like this every year in the Pines for Split Window buses only, I'm sure he would give you helpful info if you got in touch with him.

Greg,

Very cool idea! Sounds fun and adventurous!! I agree scoping it out first is key. Maybe me, you and Rose could take her jeep and try the different routes you're considering. Maybe Marty and his jeep would be up for it too!  Then we can test the best route with a bus.
