Title: The VW community has lost a giant.
Post by: Baha (Shawn) on May 06, 2022, 09:02:04 pm
Jack Kessel, co-founder of SJVWC, mentor to VW owners everywhere with more than a million views of his YouTube engine rebuild series and dozens of other VW repair videos. Former owner of Kessel's VW Service and of the world famous Lil' Screamin' Zonker (I-Gas) drag car that defeated the unbeatable Empi Inch Pincher in the heyday of VW Drag racing.

Jack was a friend to anyone who owned or just dreamed of owning a VW. We will miss you my friend.  His most valuable advice will ring in my brain every time I think about altering my VW... "Do you really think you're smarter than the team of German engineers that designed that?

This is the original club business card Jack gave me at Englishtown the first time I met him. It was a new club and I was debuting my recently finished squareback. Jack really liked the car and asked if I would be interested in the club. I just thought he was a crazy old man. After a while I came to learn that he was a crazy old man that new a lot about volkswagens.
The email address on the bottom of the card was named after Black Beauty, his 64 beetle he was driving. I always gave him grief about it because it wasn't black. He said he tried experimenting with metal flake in the paint and it turned it to a dark greenish looking color.

Jack was one of the few people I would let drive my cars. He used to shift like he was still racing.

Jack was a true pioneer of the VW enthusiast. He will remembered by a lot of people. Sad to see him leave us.
