Title: New guy here!
Post by: 06APRB6 on March 21, 2011, 11:33:42 pm
Hello everyone! My name is Cory Curtis and I just wanted to introduce myself to the club before I try to get to a meeting. I am on my third dUB now. My first was a 2000 Beetle that my ex had (I probably put over 30,000 miles on it) which really sold me on VW quality and durability. My first that I actually owned was an 03 Golf GL. Nothing special but became my "groupie" car as I had used it to followed a couple bands on tour. Racking over 60,000 miles in a two year period.

Now my current car. A 2006 Passat 2.0T. I have had it for over two years now. It has become my love. My current mods are as follows: 5% tint on the back windows, APR Stage 2 programming, APR Turbo back exhaust, Forge Intake, Clear corner lights, and a chrome badge-less grille. Future mods in the next year or so: Install VW sport springs with Bilstein Sport Shocks, carbon fiber under the hood (engine cover, battery cover, etc), S5 style headlamps, and nicer OEM wheels.

I guess I am done with performance mods because of the limited torque rating of the automatic transmission and my 6 month old daughter. I am just going to focus on looks and maintenance now. I will try to get to a meeting in order to join and meet some of you but it is hard with a baby and being over an hour away. (I am in the Cape May area)

Here are some photos of my baby. The last one was during the $6000 of body work that had to be done because a tree fell on the driver rear quarter panel. Once I clean her up again, I will post up some more glamor shots!

lol, I kinda figured a little razzing was coming after I saw all the air cooled member rides! I am going to try to make it to the April 4th meeting but I have a lot going on. My baby has a doctors appointment that day and I have an early flight to Orlando the next day. How is the crowd at Taylors? Family friendly?

Welcome!

Oh yeah. We have a entire room for the meeting. We have our own waitress (Sherry). The management just loves us. The food is good, the beer is cold and you don't have to order. There's birthday cake after the meeting and if you sign up you will be eligible for the 3 or 4 tool raffle at the end of every meeting. There's a nice mix of all age groups  in the bar itself.

Very friendly crowd.

Awesome, I had an 03 GL as well. My speed sensor in the transmission went but I did punish it I guess. Loved that car.

Not be toooooooo picky that beast was an S4, It's like calling a Z06 just a corvette.  whistleegi An A4 would have drained my pockets only half as fast... 4cyl single turbo, instead of a v6 twin turbo...  maybe I'll pick one up  &^rofl #@rofl3  NOT

Thank you all for the warm welcome! It is nice to see so many replies!   *+youth

Welcome Cory...

Nothing says welcome to a club better than a mug or a tee-shirt, all I'm saying..

Oh I definitely want a shirt! I use to deal with PayPal daily and fees tend to rack up. Do you guys take cash at the meetings? How long do they usually last? I only ask because I am going to head up and eat  eat.gi+] eat.gi+] around 6. I have an hour and a half drive back, so I don't want to stay out too late when I am flying to Orlando the next morning.

Welcome aboard!!!  Glad to have ya!

The S4 is sick. I have been peering into an Audi but it has stayed at just that. I have been drooling over the new TTS roadster and the S5 vert. Then I look at my bank account and suck the drool back into my mouth.

That's too bad, I sold my gold for airline tickets to Vegas in May and my farm animals were repossessed. Oh and I need a XXL.

IMHO the only way to have an Audi is to lease it and never consider keeping it after the warranty is up...  Working on them is a bucket of suck.

I agree 100%. I have had most of my car apart by myself to replace seals and things like that. I don't like keeping a car that's not under warranty if I am making payments on it. Which I am. I just hit my warranty but VW extended some things to 120K miles, so I should be fine as long as I keep the maintenance up.

VW is a lot less complicated/more reliable...120k is a baby.

IMO Audi makes crap uber-complicated just to prove to the world they're better than everyone  [gunfiring\

I'll Second that.

Now if I were to hit the lottery I can't say I wouldn't own an R8...  I'd most likely have to have a full time tech on site just to keep it running...

It couldn't be much worse than when i drove my Dodge PU to a get together
here in Yuma, we looked around and all the wives were in my quad-cab,
having brandy shots ( it was cold out for Yuma ).  Man did i take a beating !!!   (Taz+) (Taz+)

Pontiac was a great car, to bad it went away with the Olds ..........

Oh yes, the R8 is very nice! Much smaller in person. There was 2 or 3 at Waterfest last year.

I really need to install my sport springs and new shocks/struts to help with grip because I have way too much power at the wheels. I have been going to APTuning in Lebanon, PA to have my work done but it is a hike and it seems like no matter what time of day I go I hit traffic bad on 76. Any good NJ VW shops?
