Beetleboi -Greg-

Hey guys,

My extractor from Chirco... or whatever his name is is coming on Monday while looking at my new hoses I came across a problem. Now those who aren't using the tin work you may not be able to answer this. The heater hoses will go directly to the heat exchangers and clamp on with a hose clamp right? Well... there's going to be a little gap of where the heater hose is going down to the heat exchangers, My question is, is that gap between the hole in the tins and the hose something i should really worry about? There are rubber pieces that go over the chrome piece that is hammered into the muffler, I'm hoping that will solve the problem with the space between the hose and tins...im rambling now.  m-d I'm just a little paranoid now about the tins that I DO have.

Also, is it possible to remove the doghouse with the engine IN the car so I can strip it and paint it? If not I'm probably going to start looking for a doghouse house soon. I'm probably painting everything flat black. You know me and shiny engines.  :icon_puke_r:

Im preparing for ANOTHER engine pull the end of this season.
Replace Heads
Put on a NEW oil cooler...I have a hunch that it's a bad cooler and leaking, it's a 100 dollar risk i'm wiling to take.
Add missing tins
Add thermostat
Spray paint pully wheels.

I'll let you know later on when this will take place donuts, coffee, and pizza will be available as always.

My two muffler choices

Thrush

Magnaflow

I kinda like the magnaflow better, but the thrush and bad either and it's cheaper.

Naturally I'm painting it flat black.

I'm going based on sound, I don't care really about any hp *IF ANY* I will add. I'm just tired of the rust mess I have on there now, that's a year old.

TIP paint your dang muffler.

No shiny chit in the engine compartment 4 me.  I'm the Darth Vader version of Eddie I

Oh ps... wait till you see my set up... I'm using a BAJA part for my exhaust... can you guess what?  :icon_jokercolor:

A) MagnaFlow sounds better.

B) Darth Vader was Shiny

Gungans weren't shiny though. Guess you're more like the JarJar Binx version  LAUGH@

I had a surprise when I came home from work...UPS was backing out of my driveway. I went inside to see what they dropped off and as soon as I saw the box I though to myself... OH NO. In 4 BIG BLUE LETTERS... E M P I Which answered my question on how do you know if the paint on it is high temp paint... well the paint on it you can scratch off with your fingernail.  >:( So I guess it will be easy to rough up for the high temp paint. Dad asked why did I get the new header, I told him because the other one was rusty.  ;D Guess he doesn't read my posts.   >:(

Don't know how tough it would be on your car but the hi-temp BBQ paint goes on better (and lasts longer) on a hot pipe.
Not too hot, like a few minutes after you shut it off.

Running it is also a good way to condition the old paint to be painted over as it will remove all of the paint from the pipes and flatten up the not-so-hot areas like the muffler(s)

Oops  :( I just sanded it all down *mostly* and painted it. Seems to be sticking ok. Looks great, it went on glossy but it's not. Shiny sucks.

Anyone know who stocks Magnaflows?

No worries. Ive repainted my muffler 3 times already. Amazingly the heat tape does a good job of protecting the pipes.
