1973 Junior
« on: August 28, 2013, 12:44:26 pm »

Due to my back issues and so little time for anything for quite a while ( work is working me over - even on weekends sometimes)  , I've decided to sell Junior ( 1973 super beetle convertible).

I worked on our family's jeep for a few hours a month ago, and my back was killing me for days,  even working on my wife's bicycle brakes also whacked my back %$oldcit........so I think doing the work on Junior would put me in a wheelchair.   I've endeavored to find a more or less perfect replacement.

Took a LOT of pictures of Junior and will sort them out hopefully by this weekend, showing/commenting  all the good and needed work ( Ted and I went over the car pretty thoroughly + documented with pic.s )

Junior needs to be sold by the end of Sept, if he is not, I will strip him down of all good parts to sell, then have him sent to bug heaven  bawlin)0

I am hoping someone will buy him though!! and make him the car he once was and wants to be again!    Will post to members first for about 2 weeks, then put it on the thesamba.

Considering putting him on this site for a price of YTM.

 More to follow...

It is sad, really love that car -!

I cannot say enough, as usual, how fantastic this club is,  clap2-*   clap2-*   clap2-*   if more people knew ( and I do advertise this fact when I am around other VW' ers - point in fact was last weekend  big car show near me with a few VW owners)

However, my endeavor surprisingly paid off, and found a  very nice 1971 convertible -  which I bought but is not home yet.  My wife says that would be one too many cars here... so there it is.

The 71 is virtually pristine, possibly as good as, ... dare I say,  - even more pristine than Sophia  byeby., - with just minor stuff needed for to be tip top.

Ted was on my case about redoing Junior with the club's help instead of getting another... but I thought it would be maybe a few too many weekends of overhaulin.......... :confused04:;

So Junior has to go - I  really hope someone in the club will take him.

Thanks to the SJVWC club for offering,  very, very kind.

Again, will be posting pic.s and write up this weekend...

1973 Super beetle (aka Junior) for sale.
Was daily driver for many years.
Areas of rust, but structural components are in very good shape.  Straight body!  Heavy undercoating which helped some areas, but hurt others.
Work needed to be done: front fenders, passenger side area by torsion bar, surface  rust on upper main body parts, rust holes in lower body passenger part areas,  passenger brake line bracket rusted off , hole in same nearby area, rust in similar area on driver side. Firewall by passenger side (feet area) would allow water in this has been patched by undercoating. Rear apron has thinned out and has pinholes. Front seal lip under hood is rusty, aerial and passenger mirror was broken off . Bolt holes  along bottom of driver sill for running board replaced, further rust inside that area ( likely? ? can?t remember what I saw there) Driver rear fender bolts replaced.  Driver seat need new matting, maybe tightening of seat springs. Engine needs new muffler. Passenger window noes not roll all the way down, was told this is due to missing washer clip. Patched quarter panel ( in black) not level with body.

new pan w/POR15 passenger side. Rails great shape, (During new pan on passenger side, thought rail was rusted, but upon closer inspection do not find this) body is straight; all door seams straight, doors open and close as they should. Window frames straight, body is not twisted.  Top, and rubber to convert top in very good shape, no known leaks around windows seals. Convertible top frame not bent, headliner in great shape, wood bow new and poly-urethaned,  rear window frame is solid rubber will not rot. Windows meet to convert rubber as they should. Hole under/by torsion bar on driver side repaired.  Shock towers in perfect shape, along with spare tire well area. New gas tank.  Gas fuel gauge working. Electrics work. Windows in perfect shape,  car was never hit. Doors solid, hinges solid, no door drop when opening. Tires in good shape, 1776 runs great, solex carb with appropriate jet for for 1776 engine.   Rear seat and back luggage compartment in great shape, regulator and associated electrics work. Center convertible inside light original and works. Seats and carpet in good shape. The car will be gone by early Oct - one way or the other, rather have someone get it as opposed to it being dragged away
