I started working on my 1973 Superbeetle.  I have a two car garage.  My 1974 Autostick Superbeetle is on one side and my wife's 3 car garage's worth of stuff fills the other side.  I want to get a heater so I can work on one or both of these cars during the winter.  What is the best heater to get?  Electric, propane or something else?  Where should I look, Home Depot or online?

Also where is the best place to get rear brake parts, drums, emergency brake cables, wheel cylinders etc?

So there are questions.... Do you want portable or permanent mount.

Propane is best. Electric is expensive. Kerosene is smelly

If permanent is what you want get a infra-red radiant that hang above and warms the floor. You get the floor warm you got it licked

Portable... Mr heater makes a 10000 btu that kicks butt. I think Jack has one

The blaster type propane heaters work very quickly but are noisy as  8*gaged

You just can't beat a Sears Kenmore Deluxe 6.0 CubicFeet dryer model 60022 with the optional AutoCyle - 13 speeds.  That baby puts out a load of BTU's thought its exhaust straight pipe, and has a nice throaty hum when doing about 6 loads on a saturday... Jackwagen can attest to its heating ability on a frosty winter  morning....

A bonus is the lint lays on your car, and when it accumulates too much, it's time to take the VW out for a ride...

For brake parts - Use local - go down to Action Auto in Vineland..If you do it, do it all, Replace all hoses, spring kits, even adjuster stars if they are shot...  If not, I get stuff from Busdepot.com off the net. They are over outside of philly so you get stuff pretty fast.

I had a pellet furnace which worked great but the pellets got expensive and there is the storage issue. I opted for a propane hot air from Northern Equipment. It works great. I turn the thermostat down when the heat is not needed to save propane.

Although the Kenmore Deluxe 6.0 CubicFeet dryer model 60022 with the optional AutoCyle - 13 speeds works great it has its drawbacks and costs to much. It's only found in High End garages.
 
This Heater is what I use and once the garage gets warm I can turn it down to the lowest setting. I would recommend buying a 30# propane bottle to use with it.

I have a small fan on top of mine to blow the heat around.

Depending how insulated your garage will determine how much propane you use.

I have a pellet stove but I think they are against code to use around gas fumes.  The kenmore is against my code because I don't want Mary sending laundry out to dry.  I called Action and I might use them for parts but Vineland is a little drive for me.  I will check out busdepot.

where are you located? you'd be surprised at what brake parts you can get at NAPA.

I am in Audubon, NJ.  I see there is a NAPA .5 miles away in Westmont.  I will call them Monday.

If NAPA doesn't have what you need, don't forget Action in Vineland and Savich's in Lansdowne (20min over the Walt Whitman)
