Tonight's meeting will feature a tech session on how to remove rust -not by grinding, sand blasting, paint conversions or acid treatments - but a cleaner, less aggressive method call  REVERSE ELECTROLYSIS.

Anyone can do this!

There will be handouts and a demo on acquiring the simple inexpensive equipment necessary.

Don?t miss it!

Yea the technique is good for a lot of things.

My set up - I use a tub

I found the cheaper the battery charger the better it works! - sometimes you need a battery in line to get it working, sometimes just the charger is good enough - this is charger dependent.

I can forgo the light, but again depends on the charger..

Matt, is that three positive leads attached to the bottom plate? Also what is the vertical plate for or is it attached to the bottom plate?

Matt:

I found that if the just using the charger don't work, it's becuase the donating anion is too rusty or corroded.

   Hi Howard!

Yes 3 positive leads to the bottom plate; the bottom plate was also wired to the side plate, for more surface area.

The metal plate goes on first, then the plastic grid, then a fine household screen mesh ( was not shown) on top of the plastic plate - as I found parts of the  metal to be derusted could come in contact with the metal plate  - so the screen helps with isolation.

It can take a while especially for big pieces, but well worth the wait while you go and do something constructive - like napping or something  thumpup)-

what is great about this is you can de-rust the insides of things.  I beleive the deposit on the metal after electrolysis acts as a rust preventative in of itself.  This has to be removed to make the parts shiny

Thanks Joe, I will keep that in mind  .... so you have to do some manual derusting to get the worse off?

At the moment I don't have anything rusty. I will pass this onto  my son and friends. :jump4jo": thi
