"What a funny noise it's making..."
« on: March 04, 2015, 06:01:21 pm »

So I've decided to spend more time on the Forum. So I'm going to start bothering you with my questions here. =-)

So when I drive my daily driver and use my Aux Cable, I can here my engine revving up through the cables.

This doesn't happen in Mildred.

Start by looking under the hood and try to see what it may be rubbing on.

it seems you are suffering from generator/alternator whine. it usually comes in from the power line - 12v. it can also come in by RF because of worn spark plug cables or spark plugs that are not of the "resistor" type. Could also be a ground issue. Or, more likely, a combination of multiple issues.

there are multiple fixes you can try.
-- Put a line filter on the +12v line(s). switched and constant.
-- Use better shielded ignition cables.
-- Use resistor spark plugs.
-- Make sure all grounds are solid.
-- Re-route and/or shield your AUX cable.
-- Rub a potato on the radio and then burry it (the potato) in your neighbors back yard on an odd numbered day. (usually reserved for really tough cases!)
-- Re-route and or shield any input lines away from any power lines.
-- Change the circuit(s) from which you are tapping your 12v.
-- Check all electrical connections to be sure they are solid.

I've had mixed results battling electrical whine. Good luck.
If you are running a power amp, all of the fixes above should be applied to it, too. Especially check the routing and shielding of the interconnects.

Sometimes, noise can be picked up through speaker wires. If all else fails check that they are not running in parallel with power lines for long distances.

All of the above have/have not worked for me in the past.
Good Luck!!

When the weather warms up a bit, I'd be happy to give you a hand.

Don't have potatoes, but I have French fries. Will they work? For all that I might as well get the blue tooth adapter. Thanks for your help though! This is for my daily.

I know it's not the aux cable, because I use it in other vehicles and it sounds fine.

Beet - One more theory. It could be that stuff you kids today call music that you are mistaking engine noise for.

These kids today.....

My bad when I first skimmed through your first post I thought you were talking about your accelerator cable.  ROFL)

Easy fix, cut the cable.

Richard had the best answers for you.

Naw Shawn figured out a fix for me for my accelerator cable issue (bus). Here is hoping for at least ten years on it!

Do you get the same noise when using the head unit with the tuner or CDs?

Is your AUX device also plugged into a car charger while playing? That could be causing a ground loop which causes the Alt Whine.
If it is, unplug the charger and see if the noise goes away. If not, check out this device:
