  Basically they say that; any oil that states on the container 'safe for emissions' or words to that effect should not be used on air-cooled or any flat tapped engines.  This has also been stated in various automotive magazines as well. Due to the (reduced) low amounts of Zn and P.

  They go on to say that the modern car oils today are formulated to protect the emission devices, NOT YOUR ENGINE.

  You should never use the new car oils in your VW. You can go on to read ;why adding friction modifiers to you oil, can actually increase wear and and clog small passages.
