Hey Rich- two things
When we took the pedal assembly apart as well as the Bowden tube, the cable seemed brand new. How is it not?
We were having real issues with th pedal assembly going back in. Did Joe ever get it?

The clutch cable  could be wrong for the car when we took it at apart it was at the end of adjustment and it already had a nut in front of the  wing nut

The clutch cable for his car should fit anything from a 62-71. Only if it's the correct one. Someone might have put in whatever cable they had

72-79 2268mm
73- and up super 2281mm

At the end of the day, literally and figuratively, we figured that what's in there is actually a cable for a super. That would explain the new cable and the lack of adjustment available. It'll have to be switched out again and measured to be sure. That small difference in length makes all the difference. Credit to Yucel for this.

Matt and John thoroughly enjoyed removing the pedal assembly and probably really look forward to doing it again

I found a 2260mm in Nicks stash later so we do have the right one for the car

 Oh yea, that was a blast removing and replacing the brake assembly, John had most of the fun with it though. Putting it back in was a real bear... John, I, Joe and Ralph all worked on it - seemed like an hour mostly trying to get the front bolt in, Ralph worked on it the least amount of time as he was able to get the front bolt in with seemingly no prob!  .  His approach from the passenger side did the trick, or Ralph as a latent  front-bolt-pedal-assembly talent he never knew about.

I don't think it was the cable, nor it's length which is affecting shifting; what came to my mind was the shifter coupling....  -  perhaps something happened there - while being replaced.

Many thanks to the amazing hostess!! Incredible! The amount, and varying food and drinks offered was outstanding! Thank you! If I did not have to leave, I was thinking I could maybe stay there for dinner.

I guess the car got started? I know there was that issue when I left.

Hmmm, good thought on the coupler Matt! Now that I'm thinking about it, I remember on my Bugs I removed the shifter at some point to tighten the coupler bolt or seat it on the rod correctly.  I don't think we did that. We'll have to check that

Yep, car got started and runs fine! The healthy young bloods Celly and Ant H who could actually go under the car and then get up without a winch determined that it always helps to have the wire to the starter solenoid attached as opposed to just laying there blowing in the wind

The car runs and sounds great, its just moving that is difficult - think Jack in his recliner right about now

Hey Muggy, put positive battery cable and firewall grommet on the parts list.

I'm guessing the floor plate for the shifter was probably adjusted to compensate for the old sloppy coupler.
Now that the coupler has been replaced and everything is tight, the floor plate probably needs to be adjusted. I had to do the same thing in my bus.

I think overall it went well. A lot of time was spent troubleshooting. Which is ok because now we know what the issues are. We just have to install or fix the bad pieces. If I wouldve known that not all window seals werent sent, I definitely wouldnt have touched the rear glass. But I?ll continue to work with DonutMan...er...I mean MugMan to get the parts and pull the tank.

Lessons learned from my first air raid : 1)  we have an amazing talented and selfless group of people in our club, 2) keep more water outside, 3)  make sure to put up the tent for the next air raid, and 4)  skip the eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns, because people really do only want the donuts and the bagels  especially  Mugman Rich.

Hey pedal assembly removal/reinstall guys,

Any chance you all remember if the brake pedal stop properly engaged the master? I'm starting the parts list and I'm ordering brake switches, boots and wire plugs. I'm just not sure if we need them. Did the pedal return back to its normal position? if not, I'll get a return spring to replace the one that was there. I thought Nick said the brake lights worked before we touched his car. I should have checked this while Celly was fandango-ing with the brake light switches under the car. My priority then was 2 Boston cream donuts

Should I really care since its nicks money?

LOL! I understand about the doughnut priority!!...

As for the brake pedal assembly, I centered the brake pushrod into the master cylinder at an earlier point, but believe it was still positioned like that when Ralph and I left it. I mentioned a  adjustment was necessary as the pushrod felt a little far from the pushrod to the recess in the brake master cylinder piston. It should just be a hair movement like 1mm before the pushrod contact the cup recess in the MS. Some people adjust the clevis screw, others do the brake stop. With the brake stop being undone and replaced, I know it is probably out of proper position as opposed to the clevis screw.
  When I left, I know Joe was in the car trying to start it. Perhaps he has a feel for how the brakes/pedal were.

If brake lights are the issue, perhaps it is part of the wiring issue (?) Need to trace the circuit.. possibly no voltage associated with the MS (?)
