TAIWAN CHROME AND ALL THAT
« on: March 28, 2021, 01:13:05 pm »

GET READY FOR THE SPRING ROLLOUT

Before everything was made in China- cheap, (make that most times inferior), VW parts, were made in Taiwan.

I remember some old-timer, telling me; maybe it was Jack, that if you want that Taiwan chrome to last, you better wax it twice a year. Taiwan chrome was nice, but it would not last.

Last summer I put front and rear bumpers on my Beetle. They were made in Taiwan. I had these up in my attic since the 1970s. They were wrapped and sealed and just as pristine as the day I put them away. However even in my unheated and closed garage, yesterday I started to notice the gray spots, the forerunner of corrosion.

So using my favorite: "Turtle Wax Chrome Renewer," I nipped that potential problem in the bud. However, all my other chrome pieces were starting to rust, even the good original German chrome.

Here's a great tip if, you don?t already know it. To restore pitted and badly discolored chrome, crumble up ALUMINUM FOIL and use it instead of a cloth to apply your chrome cleaner to the pitted chrome. It?s almost like magic how the rust will disappear.

Nice tip Joe. I?m not sure if my bumpers are from Taiwan, but it had some rust on it. I used very fine steel wool and water. It took the rust right off.

Great tip Joe!
Could you show me how it's done on my car? When could I drop it off to your house? Saturday be ok?
Any chance you could pick it up? Would you mind giving it a wash and wax...you know all that winter dust just dries out her complexion...
Thanks, you're the best!

I'll be there!

~ 3 years ago, I got two new bumpers for John Doe. (Yes one for the front, .. one for the rear.) I took Rust Bullet Clear Shot and "painted" the "inner side" of the bumper to prevent rust. Bumpers can get quite rusty there, even if the outside is kept rust free...  the inner rust, can really take away from the clean/ nice bumper look. Rust bullet clear is said to be very hard finish,  UV resistant will not crack, chip, yellow....

I just glanced at the inside of the bumper the other day, seemed to be no rust, but will give a more thorough look a bit later.

Now I'm curious...
