So, with my carb today I finally recieved a copy of the Bentley VW Service Manual

I don't like that there isn't an word index. It would make searching for things much easier than the chapter index in the front.

I like all the pictures, and the step by step detail descriptions of how to repair things.

Exploded views of the carb, fuel pumps and other parts are very helpful.

I found out that my car is missing pieces of the emissions system.  m-d

I might even have and auto stick engine in my non auto stick bug.

You buy your own bus, and do what you want to your bus. I'll do what I want to so with mine. Pissing off purists one modification at at time.

It is an engine out of an auto stick, that is why that pipe comes from the bottom of your carb, don't matter tho.
I don't have to go to work in the morning....

Well ya got another autostick motor sitting there now to compare to.  FWIW that one (greenbug) is not the original motor either (according to the case number)

And the Bentley still beats the heck out of Haynes.  Picked one up for my unfortunate ford project....I need to R&R the steering rack....pretty simple to do without the book but I thought I'd look just to make sure there were no tricks.
"Based on a complete teardown and rebuild"  MY BUTT....unless you can completely teardown the car *without* removing the steering rack...no mention of the removal anywhere in the book.   Its 2 hoses and 2 bolts...no biggie, but the book is useless.

My favorite is still the CLYMERS manual  :icon_thumleft:

Good index, good step by step pic.s

Usually, though I use all of my books together when doing something new
