We have a half winner! ( look at the question- oil slinger is the slang version. Germans don't have a name for slinger- it's an oil collector!)

This piece goes on an early rear axle and it sits inside your brake drum. The long tube went through a hole in your brake drum. If axle fluid leaked out of your seals, the round part would catch it , centrifical force would "sling it " to the out side  of the round part where it would run through the tube and out of your brake drum. You never had to worry about a leaking seal dumping oil on your drums  while your doing 50 mph around a turn. Pretty smart huh?
