Thanks Jack!

Ok

I believe in passing on credit when its due so thanks Jack for putting the most excellent wiring diagrams on the home page. Now let me tell you why..   BO** BO**

Yesterday Mike and I had another trouble shooting session on the 71 vert. He had a problem with 1 fuse blowing as soon as you would pull out the headlight switch. We fooled around for a couple of hours trying to isolate the problem. m-d m-d2 Finally Mike grabs his laptop computer, throws it on the back of the car and punches up this website. We pulled up the correct wiring diagram from the home page and used the diagram to disconnect various parts of the lighting system until we discovered disconnecting the right rear tail lamp would NOT cause the fuse to blow. A few more tries and the problem was confined to the running light on that side. Again using the wiring diagram to locate the color codes we found that the shorting wire was somewhere hidden on the car but tracing the wire back to the main loom under the rear seat allowed us to run a new wire to that circuit and bypass the short. Without the wiring diagram & the laptop we would still be looking for the short!

 BO** BO** BO**

So thanks again Jack!
Everybody should find what year wiring diagram fits your car and print it out in color, just hang onto it because if you have an electrical problem its going to be your best friend!

 blows up

PS. the Bentley book and also the "idiot book" both have this diagram but its printed in black & white! not the same!   m-d2

Thanks Bob. Nothing beats as good diagram and it has to be in color because I beleve in your case the wires change color going to the tail lights in the engine compartment of the car. If you dont have color your lost.

You are right,

thats why we had problems before checking out the wiring diagram. nothing was the same from the front to the back.

Wouldn't hurt to have it blown up to a good size poster. I think someone in the club did that, it's not a bad idea.
That's probably my fall project is to clean up my wiring in the front, put it in those plastic wire cover tubes. There are wires all over the place, total fire hazard. I'm with John, I hate dealing with wiring. I'm a bolt on it's fixed kinda guy.

It was a life saver when I rewired my bug, I did a 4 sheet poster to work from and that really helped with the small text...
