I Did Not Buy the Bus. I traveled over 1400 miles into the deep south to go and pick it up and I was shocked when I saw it. It was not at all what it was advertized to be :icon_puke_l:  1st of all it was rated on the Samba ad as being a #1 in execellent condition, thus why I jumped on it after the seeler and I cam to what I thought was an affordable price. Even in these risky  d-s times, I chanced it.  I had considered flying in and driving the bus home, as the seller assured me that It was in excellent condition and road worthy. But on 2nd though I decided to drive it just incase, not to mention taht I didn't want to put that many hard road miles on this vehical. But again when I arrived on site and looked at the Bus shocked I asked he seller's where's the bus that was in the ad? The paint that was in the ad looked shinny and fresh, the paint that I saw onsite looked oxidized faded and felt ruff, with many signs of rust bubbles starting to pop through the paint. The complete front floor pans needed to be relaced. The undercarriage outrigers etc were so rusty that you could poke through the rust with your pinky. The cross frame members could be crushed with your hand like a empty soda can, the lower front nose was so rusty that only bumper and the paint hid the rust. The Bus may have been involved in an a accindent at some point because the front to back frame rails showed signs of being sloppy welded back together again and one side was bent in much more the the other side. The tires side walls were so rotted and checked that as I stood next to one I could hear the air leaking out. The engine had a knock, the clutch kept sticking, bad steering box, the list goes on and on. Even the interior was harshly faded and showed many signs of were, stains, etc. I think his kids use to use it for a play house. I beleive that the pics that the guy sent me were from the lady who he bought the bus from years ago after she had it repainted, etc, thus why the pics looked good, and the actual bus didn't look so good. So in short, after lossing a 1 1\2 days sleep  c23, driving a hard 1400+ miles non stop execpt for fuel & P stops "use 2 drive trucks so use to long runs & no sleep" and about $500 lost in fuel and tolls, plus a loss of deposit on the rent a trailer it was an educating and tireing lost. In short I asked the seller why he could have been more honest about the Bus, he replied he was honest and called it as he saw it. I asked him if he had his glasses on or had a bad back or something and all it took was to bend the F-over and look! Needless to say we had a heated disagreement and almost got into it.  .///  Two of them and me, but been there b-4 wouldn't punk down even at this age in life. &m&

sorry to hear, Jay. at least you saw it before plunking down the full price. ( I hate to ask how much he was asking for it) Be sure to follow up on this where you saw the ad- the samba allows you to rate the ads, I think craigs list does the same.

Having looked at many buses before I found mine I know how dishonest most people are when trying to sell. Knowing how bad they rust out looking under the vehicle was the first thing I did. When I say looking under I mean going under and having a good look. People try to hide a host of bad chit that you just can't see bending down for a quick look. It makes you feel like slapping the dog chit out of them for wasting your time.

Maybe next time Jay, but look at one closer to home.

Jay,

one more reason to never buy "sight unseen".
I got the Corvair for $505.00 off of e-bay. The car has had some half  mooning rust repair including a couple of patches made with "stop signs". Now I wasn't expecting a show car and I knew that it needed work so when I went over to Pittman to pick it up I wasn't surprised. For the guy I bought it from was another story. He admitted to me he wasn't much of a car guy and bought the car off of ebay sight unseen. He also paid something like $3800.00 plus shipping and didn't get much driving time in it. The final blow for him was when the front brakes locked up and he didn't have a clue as to what was wrong so he just parked it next to his garage for 3 years and let the damp ground underneath feed the rust already on the car.

You might have lost some time, sleep and $ but you are ahead of the game when you passed on that one!

I don't know how fast my car will go.
It's more important that I know how fast my car will stop.

I'm real sorry to hear that. Lesson to be learned here is to never buy a car without seeing it in person. I know believe me. I paid $3,000 plus $700 in shipping for my VW that I found on Ebay. Had I seen it in person I would not have paid a nickle more that $900 in fact I would not have bought it period. I could not be mad at the car though, in fact I felt sorry for it & vowed to bring it back to life. I don't think that I could ever bring myself to part with it now. However I will never ever again buy a vehicle that I can not inspect in person & to take it one step further... If I can't find what I want within a reasonable distance, well then for me it was not meant to be. The shame is that I truely believe that most people are good & honest, but getting ripped off & lied to causes me to think otherwise. Oh well... here endith the lesson.
