After spending a week fixing the nit-picky stuff that the DMV wasn't happy with, I dropped the car off at Ricks for carb and valve ajustments and a re-inspection. Ricked called to let me know that I had a broken valve spring. So back to the garage to wait AGAIN for more parts.

How do you people deal with having to mail-order everything? It's driving me nuts!!!!!

I been collecting VW parts since the 60"s. and Now the only hard part is to find them.

At swap meets I tend to buy with the premise that
"I may need that some day" .

There are local people that have parts. Besides Richie, there is Action Auto in Millville and Jr. (an inactive club memeber) in Williamstown. There are many more.

Pepboys and Autozone have or can get the standard stuff. Points ,cap gaskets, fuel pumps etc.

autozone had a starter in stock - dirt cheap i might add, and pepboys had a generator in stock as well...  but waiting does suck...

Thanks, but not even "the basement" can help. Hi-performance double springs.

OK so now everybody goes...."Double springs on an 1835? Why?"

That's what Rick and I said.

Now all the "Builders" go.... "Ya see... That's the problem with buying an engine...You don't know what your getting"

Now both groups are nodding their heads  ;D

I'm runnin them on my 1776, never a problem with high reving, no valve float at all. CB performance 044s.

Hey you should think about swapping out those 92s for a set of 90.5s. You would loose a couple of ccs but that engine might last a lot longer. 92s are really thin cylinders and tend to warp and can also run hot. The 90.5s are the same thickness as stock. Just a thought  2CENTS

Thats exactly what Rick said.... I'm considering it. More than likely I will build a fresh 1776 and then swap

Thanks Joe

The formulia V guys who engines had to last and be competitve would run single valve springs. The theory being that the weight and the more presure on the valve trane cost horsepower.

VW are not high rev engines. I beleive you will find that the single hi-perfrmance springs are a better choice for future engines. I think if I was you I would swap out of those dual springs.
There are tools that will allow you to do change while the heads are still on the block.
check with Rick or Jack, they may have done this.

Since I'm not drag racing I don't worry about stolen HP but...since I might get stupid every once in a while, the dual springs are probably good to 6500 rpm which means never a chance of floating the valves.

I've got the tools covered... Just ask my wife .///
The first company I worked for allowed us to charge up to $600 on tools at Sears (using a nationwide comercial account with a huge discount), and then payroll deduct it 10% at a time, without charges or interest. So needles to say every ten weeks it was off to Sears for another $600 shopping spree. Man, I miss that place.

Just a suggestion on those dual springs,
I believe if you are going to build something that can out-rev stock you must beef up everything related. If you go for a higher lift cam sure you will need double springs or heavier singles ( assuming you want to rev the engine past 5000 rpm without float ) but don't forget steel ( chrome moly ) push rods and also solid rocker shafts and better adjusters. When you start tweaking more power out of an engine ( VW or not ) you find the weakest link real fast! A bullet proof valve train is the first thing to consider in any high performance build.

That's what I meant....One less thing to worry about... didn't mean to imply I thought they would fix everything...just that floating the valves is an easy thing to do if you over-rev accidentally... while being stupid...or showing off  T1 or something... but we dont do that I1t
