Since it's getting to be winter and some of us have nothing better to do, I figure it's time for

ANOTHER GAME!!

The following is a photo of a hack job done on a type three car. See if you can figure out what the knuckle head did.
This one might be a little tough but, I want full answers, you wisenhiemers!

 Looks to me like someone can't weld, and decided to use something like JB Weld instead. Also looks like they tried to use a large flat nut as a spacer, plus looks like a make shift manifold with the one end blocked off with tape.

They very painfully adapted a carburetor to an FI manifold for a T3, and used lots of orange RTV in the process.   Sadly this is the 2nd such conversion Ive seen recently and its not the same car....scary.

Sadly that one is better that the other one I saw.  In the other one they capped the front of the intake, cut a hole in the main manifold and RTV'd the carb to it, no weld, not bolts, just a carb RTVd to a hole in the plenum, didnt fit under the engine cover either obviously.  Amazingly it did run.  If I can find pics I will post them.

Wow... now I don't feel so bad about my car.  ;D So they wanted to fit at T1 Engine into a T3 is that what happened?

The top picture is when an idiot tries to put a type 1 engine into a type 3. The second picture is similar to Jims picture. When someone doesn't understand VW fuel injection, their first reaction is to try to convert the car over to carbs- usually dual carbs over each manifold. These same einstiens don't know how to balance carbs either so they jerry-rig a single carb in there any way they can. Problem is if you put a carb in the middle, you can't close the lid. So they cut a whole in the lid. In my photo, the guy got really lazy and just put a late model air cleaner on top. The reason for the box is two fold. They don't like the look of the carb sticking up and they are tired of the engine noise.  So I guess they think the box looks "custom".

Many years ago I had a friend who's crazy brother took their dads t-3 notch and converted it over to one big center mount carb, think it was a progressive weber. The genius cut a big hole in the engine lid for the carb to stick thru. Fear of dual carbs - sure Stupid fix - definitely !  f+t
