Valve adjustment

I started to adjust the valves. I opened my idiot book, and from that point I'm lost. The book says to rotate the crank pulley a couple of times and bring TDC to the mark on the engine block then take the cap off the distributor, line the rotor to the mark on the distributor. When I line the rotor to the distributor I am 12 degrees before TDC on the pulley.(I think the motor rotate clock wise). I am not running a stock cam, and the bike runs good. I'm not sure what is right or wrong or I'm doing something wrong or the title of the book has my middle name in it. S@Sm

Why don't you just make sure your on #-1 and check your valve adjustment with a .004 gauge. If you can slide the gauge through turn the crank pully 180 counter clockwise and check #-2. Do the same for 3 & 4 and if they are all ok, leave it alone.

I will repost how to adjust valves tonight sometime.

I watched all 4 vidios plus some others. shocked I will start adjusting tomorrow. I'll let you know how I made out.

1-1/2 hours, stick with it you'll get it. and the next time you do it, it will only take 1/2 hour.

Your right Jack. It took me 1 1/2 hours to adjust number one cylander. It took me 45 minutes to adjust the rest of them.  BO** I'll recheck the valves tomorrow before I put the valve covers on.

I got the trike all back together. I'll change the plugs & oil tomorrow. Now for the tuffy question. I put 1,800 miles on the trike, met you guys at DQ Did not touch anything on the engine.
When I adjusted the valves I turned the crank pully around a couple of times, made sure #1 valves are closed, and the cylander was at TDC. I checked my distributer to make sure the rotor pointed at the mark on the case, it didn't.

What I can't figure out is: The book says timing is 7 deg. ATDC. I'm at 21deg BTDC. Should this be? s#r I have a CB Performance Super Street Eliminator Cam P/N 2234. Will this make a difference or am I doing something wrong?  ???

At TDC the rotor should point at the notch in the rim of the distributor not the case. Is this what you meant to say? If it is not, where is it pointing? Give your answer in multiples of 90 degrees. Is it 90 degrees to one side of the notch? Is it 180 degrees from the notch? This will help formulate an answer easier for you.

Your right. The notch is on the rim. Going clockwise the notch would be at 12 o'clock the rotor is at 2 o'clock.  :-\
