Busy Morning
« on: May 08, 2009, 07:11:41 am »

I spent all night panicing about today. I wanted to get a lot of chit done before the rain came in. Reminded me of college pulling all nighters to get work done, going to class to turn the assignment in and come back to the house and pass out. Anyway...
Pulled the steering damper off it seems like it has an air pocket in one area and the rest has the same amount of tension, makes a gurgley sound. Horn still doesn't work, it's gotta be a ground or the brass connectors. Took off the bumper to put the german bumper I bought at Englishtown on.
Now I'm just waiting for the nut shop to open. I think they open at 9:00. Mom came out and asked if I was ok... cause I don't wake up at 7:00 EVER.

I'll let you know how things go, I'm more worried about the shimmies 40-50 mph than anything else. I didn't take off the wheels because I'm lazy... FYI don't be lazy and take the wheels off according to VW-Resourses. Thought I could skip a step, and it didn't benefit me at all.

PS If anyone knows of a place where I can buy individual wrenches let me know, my 13 mm is MIA. Figures it's one of the 3 that I need and not like the 6 mm or the 15mm.

PS, while stalking Jack last night on Live Maps, I found an awesome bike trail. It use to be an would county road that is grown in, depending on if H have signal... which i doubt I will I might check it out. It went straight from the end of my road to the lake, and beyond.

The bumper is the wrong year. I think it's for a 73 or it's a rear bumper and not a front.  >:(

The horn didn't work on my fastback. I had to pop it open and clean off the contact points on the inside. A little sandpapper did the trick. Did you get it to work independitly from the car?

Yes it's a new horn, and I had it on a separate push button. I think the only way you can get a new brass contact is if you buy a turn signal mechanism... if that's the case it's not that serious.

No more shimmies, in the process I managed to pull my speedo cable that didn't have a cir clip in it out. It's actually weird driving my car now. It's as quiet as my corolla and it doesn't shake violently.

I did discovery why I'm getting water inside my car, I have a gash in my floor pan. I also saw that I have cancer on my beam. So I guess when it's time for that to be replaced, I'm going to go with an adjustable one.

Time to go help day play musical bugs one is driveable, the other needs to be towed to the back of the house. They might be breaking the soil tomorrow for his garage!! Today might be the last day I have to get dirt on my back!!! I though about tearing out my wiper assembly to seee how it works, but it works so for now I'm no going to mess with it. I still blame the motor for why it doesn't park right.

If your talking about the steering beam, you can have the original that came out of my '72. You would be doing me a favor. It's big, heavy & taking up space
