Thx everybody - I'm starting the DMV process this week, we'll see how this goes.

Step 1 - Complete!

The "friendly"  folks at the NJ DMV local office in Turnersville got me out in about 20 minutes for a title change from PA to NJ. I figured I would do that there and then deal with even more "friendly" folks in Trenton.

Thought I was going down fast when the DMV guy started staring at the old title and scratching his head trying to remember if a Beetle had two or four doors. Next stop Trenton.

Replacing all the fuel hoses this weekend, new coil is in, steering dampener, got some new rubber on it now, found a few interesting things - never saw a completely empty master cylinder before. Filled it up, checked for leaks - NONE. must have been sucked out by the Fluid Genie.

My '67 didn't have all this emission crap on it. All in favor of ripping out the evap canister, some bungled up EGR contraption sawed off below the engine tin, and the fuel vapor plastic whatever with the 20 feet of fuel vapor line on it in front of the fresh air box, say "aye".

I dont remember needing nightly doses of Advil either....

Check your floor near the Pedal cluster  and see if it is wet.
I don't have to go to work in the morning....

Thx Jack. Thats where the pushrod is, right? I checked that as well. nada.

Maybe the previous owner needed some cooking oil and sucked out the reservior with a baster, I dont know.  I havent seen a drop leak on my floor since I filled it up two weeks ago. Once I do my thing on the fuel lines this weekend, I'm going to tackle the brakes. Prelim investigation says I need a couple of new wheel cylinders in the rear, since the bleeders have been hacked off the back of the brake plates. Last time I did these on my REAL '67 about  a 100 years ago, I thought it took me about 2 hours on the first wheel and 15 minutes on the second. Prob do the wheel bearing repack. Guess I need new seals back there as well.

Like riding a bike...

Trying to access the Jack video on brakes, but it doesn't want to load. Must have krappy Karma today...

Check along the entire length of the brake line tube in the car,  - no hint of fluid residue?

Had mine once open up underneath the back seat.

Thx Matt, I got it this way with an empty reservior, I just cant figure out why anybody would run it down to NOTHING.  It sure doesnt appear to have a leak to me, since I have it in my garage with no trace of a leak of fluid anywhere on the floor.

I mena, a whole can of fluid went into it when I first got it.

Whatever, its all about trying to figure out the history of it...

So the only advantage of the QQ's is free renewals ever 3 years. You still have to go through emissions? =-/ Where can I scrape a Collector's Triangle off a windshield?

No emissions or any inspection on QQs.  Don't get caught daily driving it though.

Scrape it and you never get another one, they discontinued them except if you still have one keep it current and they will still renew it but once its gone its back to regular inspections.  %6%

Bob was talking about collectors.

I suppose they could deny you QQs but I've never heard of it happening.  Just make sure your photos look close to stock and they barely look at them.

rich67vw

Last week, threw a few nice smiles at them in Trenton, and I had the check already written out... Barely looked at the photos I handed them..
