Greg,
thanks! that was interesting.
I heard about this one before but never saw that vid. The vair engine was also used in light aircraft, as a stationary engine to power pumps etc., motor homes ( specially constructed of light weight fiberglass ) and other government vehicles. Some of the rides at Disney land ( train rides especially ) were vair powered as wer many floats in the Rose bowl parade.
Think about it, the flat six with a low profile, no need for a radiator and lots of spare parts was a natural for strange uses. I'd have to bet that the vair came in second to the VW for "unautomotive uses". Either engine be it 4 or 6 is a small compact and powerful option for all kinds of weird uses!
I thought all corvairs were tanks?
Jst so you know, heres one of those "tanks" it went something like 138 MPH at Bonneville about 2 weeks ago. The guy was pissed because winds and track condition kept him from breaking a record for the car of 186 MPH! He couldn't keep the rear wheels from breaking loose & spinning at over 125!
not bad for a "tank"!
