The good & the bad...
« on: September 04, 2009, 04:07:31 pm »

OK - well the good news is, the Bug is running pretty good right now. With just a basic tune and a fresh oil change, I rolled over to DMV to get it inspected...Failed. Crap. Failed me for the gas cap (rubber gasket has a few little cracks in it) and emissions...I was too lazy to pull the wide band O2 sensor out & re-calibrate it this morning...so I had no idea that I was running too rich. Well, after I got home I calibrated it and did some tuning - noting the air fuel ratio when I had a chance to safely glance over at the AFR gauge while driving. Oh...and I also didn't reset the timing after I put the motor back in. I marked the distributor where it was 5? BTDC before I pulled it.

So... I have a few things to iron out before getting it inspected again...Still have tuning to do since it is around 11.8:1 cruising @ 55 mph. I was all the way down the other end of the inspection building and could not tell if they were checking emissions @ idle or if it was at a certain RPM. No chassis dyno or rollers. Knowing this would help me tune for emissions...
