RELEASE: August 25, 2009

MVC Highlights Greater Convenience for Historic Vehicle Owners
QQ plates now available at select agencies statewide

(TRENTON) ? Building on the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission?s ever-growing list of customer conveniences, Acting Chief Administrator Shawn B. Sheekey today announced that license plates for historic vehicles, typically referred to as QQ plates, will now be available for purchase at six agencies statewide. The move to decentralize QQ plate transactions eliminates the need for historic vehicle owners to make a special trip to the MVC?s Trenton Office Complex and provides an alternative to applying by mail.

?Since first taking office, Governor Corzine has ensured that government offices and the services they provide are convenient and accessible to all New Jerseyans,? said Sheekey. ?As we?ve seen time and again, our agencies are well equipped to provide a wide range of motor vehicle services. Providing more locations for historic vehicle owners to conduct their business is another achievement on the MVC?s list of added conveniences.?

There are nearly 51,000 historic vehicles registered in the State of New Jersey. Vehicles considered historic are at least 25 years old and are used only for exhibition and educational purposes by the owners. Such purposes may include classic car shows and parades. The license plates, which are sold for $44 per set, feature the QQ designation in the character combination. Owners seeking to register a historic vehicle may now visit agencies in Eatontown, Manahawkin North Bergen, Runnemede, Springfield and Wayne. The MVC will also continue to process historic plate requests via mail.

The decentralization of historic plate transactions is just the latest in a number of motor vehicle processes that have moved from either single or limited locations in order to provide greater customer convenience. Services related to handicapped plate/placards, suspensions and surcharges, driver history abstracts and salvage titles have all been streamlined over the last six years and are now available in multiple locations throughout the state.

Since its formation, the MVC has also advanced a number of projects and initiatives centered on improving the MVC?s ability to provide its core services of driver licensing and vehicle titling, registration and inspection. The move to overhaul New Jersey?s driver testing system, which is slated for completion in late spring 2010, will bring greater security, a streamlined business process and better information sharing to both the knowledge and road tests for new drivers. The state?s vehicle inspection program is presently undergoing a major update as new technology and enhanced inspection methods such as undercarriage cameras and vehicle lifts provide a better opportunity to identify safety issues of nearly seven million registered vehicles.

For those of you who are interested in running Eurotags on the front of your classic VW, I found this...

http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/9899/Bills/a0500/463_i1.pdf

I know dad has one, and I'd like to get one too if I am able to do it legally.

So as long as you are running 1 QQ Plate on the back, you are able to put whatever you want on the front. I've always thought front plates took way from the beauty of the car... any car.
