As you know by some previous posts we finally got our engine from Savich's Auto. A couple things we found out while installing the engine that you %$oldcit guys probably know, but this was our first engine install.
The old single port engine had nuts and bolts and nuts and studs holding the engine to the trans. Our new dual port engine had a threaded insert in the upper driver side mounting hole. The problem is the old bolt locked into the trans housing so the bolt wouldn't turn when you put on the nut from the engine side.
So Tim got a longer bolt and slid a nut a little larger then the bolt onto the bolt. The nut then seated into the trans housing and allowed us to tighten the bolt to the trans.
Also, we didn,t know you had to line up the accelerator tubes between the body and the engine. The cable was binding until we figured that out.
We had to take the GT muffler off to get the engine in because we couldn't get the right angle on the engine to slide it in. After we got the engine in the exhaust pipes hit the apron. Ramon told us about the spacer you could put between the body and frame in the rear. But he said be carefull you don't break the bolts trying to get them off. Well lets just say one out of two ain't bad &(rage_. Anyway they worked great and now we have nice space between the apron and the exhaust pipes. **^bana0
The next problem was the throttle linkage. The new engine has a weber 2 barrel progressive carb and the old engine was a stock single carb. The linkage off the carb was too high comparted to the tube coming thru the fan shroud which caused the throttle cable to bind at the top of the tube #banghead. So we "fabricated" new linkage using some aluminum rod. This allowed the cable to slide straight into the tube without touching the sides. So far it seems to be working.
Savich adjusted the valves after we put about 10 miles on it because it was making noise. We put another 70 or so miles on it and changed the old and external filter.
Sunny didn,t want to leave Ruby after spending about three months with her. So I litterly had to drag (tow) him home. He's in my neighbors garage sulking. Hopefully he will see her Sunday on the Frosty Cruise. &^beer&
