What did you do to your VW today?

put in a cool new interior light today after rewiring everything and documenting in my bentley.. It nice and bright at night, but I think Im going to get some warmer white ones and stick these ones under the dash.

These are them, Ive actually had them for over a year, but it just occurred to me that it was a great spot to put them.

I went to the local wrecking yard and pulled a VW wiring harness out of a badly abused new beetle and picked out the correct'ish colors and ran wires up the trim to the headliner which I pulled partly down, that is where the front wiring meets the rear light wiring, so I tapped it into the rear light harness.

Im going to pull them and put them under the dash because I think they are too bright, but Ill probably order these to replace them.

Ill put them on the white part of the interior just above the panel.

Fixed my Instrument Custer... Well, sort of.

The new voltage regular did not work, so for S&G I decided to attach a jumper wire from a hot wire, to the input of the voltage regular and it works! Got a tach, got a gas gauge, temp gauge, a random light in the cluster which I have no clue what it is for. Matt and I are going to splice the hot wire from the cluster connection and run it up to the voltage regulator. I really wanted to take her to work tomorrow, but I know it'll be better once all the wires are soldered into place.

Matt and I... well mostly Matt worked on the instrument cluster today, found a break in the flexible circuit and tried fix it with a "Silver Pen". Was good till I noticed that the gas gauge and tach gauge weren't working... I also saw that there was smoke. We've given up on the cluster, ordered one off of Ebay. We... Matt spent too much time on this already. Have I mentioned how much I hate electronics?
