A lot of times, if not all the time a problem like that is due to a air leak or a bad Idle cut off  valve.

To check for air leak... Start the car. Spray a little carb cleaner arount the base of the carb, the boots (if DP) and down wherethe manifolds bolt to the heads. Any change in idle indicates an air leak

See Jack, I get it

 I am still waiting for Nigel to return from the paint shop, so I decided to build a new engine for Herbie. Here are some hints, 1835, 041 and 92. :confused04:;

Thanks to some spare parts from VWNutt I was able to rebuild the steering column in the Super.

With the repaired column switches, I was able to get the wipers working. All that's left is chasing a few more wires and she's done

Painted cooling tin parts for Herbie's new motor today. Also put a new Class III hitch on my Jeep Cherokee. You never know when you might have to go on a road trip to trailer home a classic V-Dub. Pictures coming soon  :confused04:;

I bought a new battery today. When will I be able to put it in? :confused04:;

Bob(Herbie)

Assembled Herbie's new long block the last few days. Almost finished painting cooling tins today. Had help from a couple of friends, Ovid and Clark, cleaning up all the cooling tins and various parts. Assembly continues... Slow but steady  %$oldcit

Soooo it wasn't today, but a couple weeks ago Nuebug (Tim) and Buglvw (Howard) spent a weekend together  =+grouphu9  and ripped into Sunny's old motor.  (The one that "blew up" last year??)  &rant(( I have pics to post but I don't know how to caption them.  :confused04:;  I am not good with that particular technical end of it.  Hey, I know how to chat and post  yaygif but I don't how to name engine parts without using words like "thingy" and "whatchamacallit" and "fixit!"   *_no**

We would like to send a special thanks to Ramone  /help.gif.,/ for popping over to lend a hand.  I have it on good authority that this stage of the game woulda gone into overtime without you!  Thanks!  th_cheerleader-1.gif

Soooo Here they are!   Check out that pulleythingywhatchamacallit!  Yikes!

Uuuummmm I don't much, but I know THAT'S   ^soh^ not right!!!

Not sure what screwed the cam gear but the birds nests under the tins probably had the motor cooking, which couldn't have helped

Looks like grass clippings!

  Looks like the cam froze and the crank kept going. Your going to have to do some carefully measuring and cleaning to determine what parts are re-usable.
