getting Ned ready for Flanders. Finally doing the front brakes. I have to mail them off to get relined as the parts are NLA anywhere. When I took off the passenger side, I noticed a burnt smell in the bearing grease. Outer bearing is fried, so I'll have to replace that. Greases the front beam and noticed the grease nipples were gone, so I replaced that. I might have a leak in the rear axle seal. I already have a replacement seal so that will be easy. Filled the steering box with ATF fluid (sounds weird but that's what Mr. Bentley told me to do). Topped off the gear box with 90W so as soon as I have the parts back, I'll move onto the engine work.

6T5 square

the square is a 65. The reason for the work is Flanders is saluting type3s this year. I haven't driven weezie in 8 months and I haven't done any heavy work on it in over a year. I have a two page check list that I use when ever I do this job (it's a standard VW dealer checklist) so I'm going over everything before I make the trip to Flanders. Then A decision needs to be made about the car.

vwtrike (Rich)

Today was a great day. I was feeling reel good. I took the trike for a little ride. Before I knew it I went a little over 65 miles. It felt great. I made a bracket for my walker, and stopped at WAWA for lunch. I feel great!!!

Bob(Herbie)

Way to go Rich. Wonderful to hear you are feeling great!

Finally got some time yesterday and some clear skies to boot so I put the bug up on stands and set about doing my first valve adjustment on a VW. Last time I did any valve adjustment was on my mom's '69 Skylark back in '71!! Nothing has changed and by the time I was working on cylinder #4 I was pretty comfortable again. It felt great to be back wrenching on something w/o a computer. It was a good thing I was under the car cause I just happened to notice what appeared to be some "wetness" on the swing axle boot. Turns out it's starting to crack on the side opposite the bolts. The boots I'll leave for the tear-down.

My shipment of parts finally arrived so next weekend, weather permitting, I'll be attempting to do the fuel pump and maybe the carb also to hopefully cure what I believe is a fuel starved engine. I'd love to get that all sorted before I tear it all down for the refurb.
Zoom Zoom...   ;-)

Big trouble! I have more oil on the garage floor then I want to see. When I find somebody to get under the trike I want to fix, and change drain plate. I was thinking of Scat p/n 6061-T6. The cover is aluminum. Maybe somebody knows if this is a good move. :confused04:; George may have to take another trip.

Well I found the matching wheels and tires for the front of the "lightening Bug" today ; now I'll get busy mounting them and then I'll have two Weld wheels and tires to sell/trade. I'll post this in the right spot when I'm ready. **^bana0
