What year? Anthing 67 or newer has to go through emissions here....but only in certain counties.... %6%
It's a '76 - Pretty sure it is the stock motor, with at least 120,000 miles on it - odometer reads 17,563 (or close to it) It's non-catalyst.
In keeping with the thread:
When I got the car the speedo cable was broken. Rather than just blindly replacing the cable, I did some investigating to find out why. It turns out that the speedometer was totally locked up when I inserted the broken cable end into the speedometer & tried to turn by hand.
I decided to remove it & open it up after taking LOTS of pics of no less than 12 wires attached to the back of the speedo.
After documenting everything, I carefully worked the bezel off of the front of the speedo, and removed the glass and fuel gauge. From there I could remove a few more parts & get at the input shaft.
The input shaft has a magnet on the end of it. This creates a sort of 'magnetic flux' (for lack of better term) and that makes the speedo move. This of course, only happens when the input shaft is not binding in it's bore! I removed the crusty input shaft with a drift pin & small jeweler's hammer. I cleaned everything and lubed it with white lithium & polished the input shaft with a Scotch pad. I could feel a flat spot and the shaft would bind in certain clock positions. I carefully removed the high spots of the input shaft bore with a dremel & 1/16" end mill. It took about 5 or 6 times of just 'kissing' the bore to get the tight spot out.
After re-assembling and logging 250 miles, I'm pretty sure I fixed it :icon_cheesygrin:
