Don?t know if I am reading that website right. Will it tell me where the paint code tag is located on my super beetle? I see that there are different colors of red. Just not sure which one is on my car. The choices are Kasan red, and Iberian red but can?t be sure until I find paint code tag.

I have to check, but I think ( been some years)  there is a metal paint code tag on the horizontal part of the body by the spare tire at about the 7"oclock position.
Will confirm when I get some time...

Rick,

According to the Samba, the only red for 1972 is Kasan Red (L30B). I checked Wolfsburg West also. It said the same thing.

I believe the color code would be in the front around the spare tire. It may have been removed or fell off over the years. If I remember correctly, it was only a sticker. Check out this link for the PPG number.

Hi Nick!!, hope you are doing well.... thanks for helping out..

Found a site showing 2 reds,  the other is called Colorado red, -it is a dark red, but am betting the Kasan red you mentioned is prob correct for Ricks car.

Here is the site... appears to be pretty powerful for paint determinations on vehicles...

  https://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?make=Volkswagen&model=Beetle&year=1972

Finally found a site showing the metal plate for paint codes that I remember seeing too years ago.... I only saw it on one of the number of super beetles that I had.  I do not think I remember seeing it on my 71 that i have now..
It is on page 3 in this pdf. If Rick is lucky, he has one..

What is the year of your convert Nick? Don't remember.

Rick, hope we helped!

Thank you gentlemen, from the looks of your research, Kasan Red it is.

Doing great Matt. It's a '68 convertible. It was originally Zenith Blue, but somewhere along the line someone painted it red.

Colorado Red seems to look like burgundy. The Samba lists it as a 71-72 color and as Colorado Metallic. I'm guessing it's the same?
