With regret, now there is only one (?)
« on: September 29, 2009, 09:56:59 am »

All,

Well, it is with sad feelings that I, from my highly coveted, venerated supreme place of honor (  obviously so dignified, people humbled themselves from not talking about it) exalted by it's uniqueness, revered for its dedication, devotion and steadfastness, ......from my greatly acclaimed state of position - I must step down from SSSODDA:  (SJVWC's Secret Society of the Daily Drivers Association).     :icon_cry:   :icon_cry:   :icon_cry:   gl6   :icon_cry:   :icon_cry:

In front of the club meeting....
Me:  "Hello, My name is Matthew"
                 Audience: "Hello Mathew"
Me: "My name is Matthew and my daily driver is not a VW"
Audience: - "Gasps" and short sharp "OH's! few people slump in their chairs; quiet sobbing is heard from the back      -  "Cut that out Greg!"

I am..............Iam now........ now one of you.......... :icon_eek:

 Humbly yours,

Matt

But the convertible  will be resurrected!!!!!

Is Jack the only one left?   - That club is so dang secret even the members don't even know who all the members are!

I can't talk about that specifically without putting my and my family's lives on the line.    @3#

Any SSSODDA (pronounced "soda") member could tell you that  - if I only knew who they all were....

That is a misnomer of SSSODDA, first sacrilegiously misnamed by 6T5 ( and he thought had "ghia problems" now   @7@.....)

you have to read the first post

I've got my black arm band on ... sorry for your loss Matt.
I'm sure when you get some extra time/money that old Vert will be back.

What is the daily drive now?

  Thanks Mike,

Money does help with getting it back into shape!  & I'm looking forward to working on it; I think it will be cool to take the body off, which is my plan.

My new drive is a 98 honda accord, 90k miles on a vtech-6 engine. Place I'm buying it from a little known  backwoods hick area called Turnersville  :icon_tongue:is .
Actually I think it's bout 10 min from jacks house- just off rt 42

Car has some good scratches on it from kids, but I think I can fix that up nice.
Buying it from a real nice family, but they dont know much about cars, though they did change the oil all the time. I told the guy it will need the timing belt replaced, & told him the honest cost of doing that job, he got a little upset saying he had his belt replaced on his other car a year ago and cost him$150. I said wha?...timing belts are 4 hours labor......  I then realized he was talking about the alternator belt.

I love our VW's - NO timing belt.

With the new car, it will be a nice treat to turn the heat waaaaaaaay up in the winter, heck, maybe I'll makes myself sweat ^^^

                 :icon_confused:     :icon_confused:   I know, I know......

I'm still camping though, so not all is lost - though I now use an air mattress.

Dem were da days when I'd go camping only with a tarp for shelter, little thin foam mat and a sleeping bag..

Could be worse (ie getting REALLY soft),...... I could have a bus!

Hey Matt,

Just think it might be time to take the vert off the road now. If you get it back into
the right shape and do a nice restoration its only going to be worth more as it gets older. The alternative is just fix it to get by but you will be shortening its life. In a few years the car will be complete, good as new and you will have the satisfaction of knowing it was done right! Think of it as "money in the bank". Try that with an IRA!  d-s d-s d-s
