Frozen Pipes another random non-vw question.
« on: October 17, 2009, 05:01:29 pm »

So, at what temperature does the heat actually need to come on to prevent frozen pipes? I figure since I share the water bill with the people downstairs that since they have their heat on *at least I hope they do* that the pipes will not freeze. Both my room mate and I both agree we'd rather save money and put hoodies on and blankets instead of cranking the heat. Both our parents would turn down the heat at night so we don't mind the cold at night.

Thoughts?

If you keep the thermostat on 50, they will not freeze.

Ha on my thermo that's as low as it goes anyway. So I guess the heat can't be turned off.

if there's no OFF switch on the side of the thermostat it may turn off at the lowest setting. Go for 53.

Please, please Jack, can we come back   :surrender:

It was only 96 today here in Yuma, but we lived at South
Lake Tahoe, Ca. for over 25 years at 6300 ft., it gets real
cold during the winter months.  When we were Snow Birds,
coming to Yuma during the winter, we left our temp set at
50 deg. at the house in S. Tahoe.  We never had a frozen pipe
or any problem with the house in the winter months. P#3 P#3 P#3

Now we will put up with heat of summer over snow and ice of winter  BO**
My cooling costs almost equal your heating costs. Just reversed as to
season.   $61$
