Check out the Carranza Memorial - about 9 miles in the woods off 206 in Tabernacle

http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/2165

I haven't been there in 30 years... It's in the middle of no where but has a small parking area where we could gather...

We went there last year, but that's OK let go again :icon_thumleft:

i bet if you told mark and mark the publishers about the club doing a weird nj tour they'd put it in their magazine. i met them a few years ago and they were very cool guys. we need someone to write the story, anyone? i actually had a story published in their magazine about 10 years ago. busicon2

I was thinking Mayish. It's getting a little late in the cruise year, and we still have to organize a Christmas Cruise. Camping could be organized... I'll work on it tonight, see what I can come up with.

Ok so here it goes...

ETA 3.1 Hours WITHOUT STOPPING

I guess we'll meet somewhere in Clayton

Palace of Depression *It was torn down, but they are re-building it due to be finished 2011... should be close to finished they started in 2007*

Fountain of Youth Mini Statue of Liberty

Driving past Story Book Land

Big Ship House *Rumor has it that it was torn down, but as of 10/7/09 it's still there.

Giant bottle at Renault

Smithville

Mighty Joe *big gorrilla*

Emilio Carranza Crash Monument Couldn't find exact address and it's not included in the 3.1 hours ET.

Lunch at Shamong

Campers can skip the Tiny Church and go right to Atsion...

Tiny Church

Campers back to Atsion to camp.

This is just an idea, only expenses would be food from Shamong Diner.

Isn't that the "Palace of depression" and wasn't that spot used in the movie "Eddie and the cruisers" ?

they put on a great once a year car show

saw a really good show on the History Channel they did but it was called "Weird USA" some strange stuff like a town in a salt mine that was under water and some other strange stuff. Its a good concept who knows a bunch of VWs checking out this stuff might be weird enough to be considered for their publication. Anyway a good photo opt!

Very cool stuff!!! I sometimes forget how much the garden state has!  :icon_cheers:

I was wondering if there was any interesting places to eat on the planned route?  I enjoy a break in the cruise about halfway to have a bite and chat. This is just my  2CENTS  I figured since we are going for unique places we can find somewhere cool to eat. I'm not knocking the Diner, but there are some very good spots to eat in South Jersey, and more fitting to the theme of the cruise  drive&&.

Cheers,
Marc   stoned#

Scarecrow, I thought about it but we'd have to get special permission to go to the track to actually see anything. Vineland would have been my 1st choice. I was thinking about us getting into trouble and then making our club look bad. I did honestly think about checking out a track. I guess asking couldn't hurt, but I leave that up to the BOD to decide.

3 Gear, we could split up the cruise and have some meal in between. There are several good diners on Rt that we could stop at on the way to Smithville. We'd have to make prior arrangements because they are quite small.

The reason for the research is to decide on one or two places to choose. I cant get people to decide on a cruise if there are 30 places to choose from.
(I'm not sure who the people are that you need to get intrested but give me the two or three sites and I'll get the people intrested)

I think you should stick with club protocol and do the above.   888 Ideas for cruises is GREAT but do your homework first.

All suggestions to John should be posted or sent to him only after you research your ideas and have a full plan instead of just throwing a lot of stuff out here.  c23

I checked out a lot of the places on that list and I only saw one so far that would be worth the trip. There isn't much to do or see at the 12 or so I checked so far.
