Gonna be doing a lot of sheet metal welding on Ratu & my non gas flux core welder just isn?t gonna cut it. The Lincoln 140 & Hobart 140 appear to be the two must popular & recommended 110 volt gas mig welders. Cheapest price I found for the Lincoln was $540 @ Lowes. Not too many carry the Hobart. Sears sells them for $479. Found a Lincoln 140 on Ebay for $510 with free shipping. Includes everything but the gas bottle. This Ebay seller has 100% rating with 46,000 feed backs. I bought my first weld from them. Here?s the link to the Ebay store

Mark,

nice unit! should work out good for what you plan to do with it. Like we were saying at the party, gas makes it so much easier. I'm no great welder but with the gas I can lay down a passable bead with very less burn thru. Just a tip, if you are looking at the stand and accessories don't forget Harbor freight. I got one of their mig stands with wheels and a bottle rack and it works out great and cost something like $45.00. I also picked up one of their welding blankets on sale ( forget how much but cheap! ) Lowes and Home Depot wants 3x as much for the same stuff.

Also don't throw that roll of flux core away. I've nver tried it but I hear flux core works great with gas, hope somebody else with more experience can jump in on that one. Wheres Pat when you need him!

It was at one of the welding sessions with Pat that he advised using a flux core rod with gas.  weldface

So I tried it when I was gutting a muffler and it worked great! Much better consistent beads with less burn through.

I did get more white deposits around the welds but they wire brushed off easlly .
