I guess Im allowed to say it since its my little frankenstein.

Wartburg frame + VW chassis + Porsche suspension and brakes...mix well, weld profusely.

At least its progress.

Just wait, its gonna get weirder :)

This whole "gotta be done by June" thing has me ultra stressed though.

And if Bugaru pops his head in here...
I hope you dont mind if I might pick your brain as we're getting this thing fired up.  I've left the swap details to one of my other teammembers who is much better with wiring and stuff but I still think I've researched this more over the years and will probably end up having to do the last minute troubleshooting.

Motor is going to be a 2.2 Legacy motor (1993) with a Kennedy adapter.

Jim,

I'm sure you can pull this one off. It falls into the "mondoweird category" but looks like you planned it out very well. That frame looks like it came out of a tank!

The Wartburg frame was amazingly strong and solid.  We kept the center spine of the VW for some additional support and mostly because it kept us from having to engineer a new shift rod :)

Hoping to have a rolling chassis by the end of the month, just waiting on a friend who works at a fabrication shop to finish plasma cutting the peices that Im making the front strut towers for the 944 stuff out of.  Then its plumbing and wiring and ALOT of body work, about 1/3 of the car is being recreated in fiberglass to fit the porsche rims under it and so if anything gets damaged during the race I can rebuild.  Cant exactly get replacement body panels for this thing.

Probably not hittin the road till late may.  Then off on BABE, and as soon as we get back I turn around and take it out to Summit for the road race.

If it survives all that I'll bring it back for everyone to have rides :)

General theory right now says its going to be a very tail happy beast but Im doing my best to limit that, but suspension theory isnt one of my best points.  Learning a hell of alot though as I go.

When it's all put together ... I might need to photograph the "monster" ...

And now the next phase begins....

Approximately 1/3 of the original sheetmetal is being recreated in fiberglass, with nice flares to fit the wheels.  We also stretched the wheelbase by 12 inches so the wheel wells had to be relocated on the new fenders.

Plenty of time till june right?   c23  S@Sm  stoned#
