OK, just bought 250 watt 4 channel receiver for my Bus. I realize that real world RMS power is probable 30 watts per channel. Here's my question. If I use two speakers instead of 4  would the get 60 watts per speaker or will it still be just 30. Want to know so I can decide if I want to use 4 or 2 speakers.   c23 :surrender: ???

Baha (Shawn)

Ill thinking that it might be 100 watts for each of the back channels and 25 for each front, which is normal & might answer your question.

Need more info.

Personally I feel like you hear more with 4 speakers, and not just volume. It's the way that the radio distributes the levells. Like the bass tones are heavier in the back, the front usually gets more of the tweeters and mid range. Most average cars have the the 6 1/2's in the front and the 6x9s in the back. This is just a personal observation since the front speakers in my bug go in and out and I can tell the lost of some tones.

Long story short, I'd say 4 or more.

Scarecrow sent me the link so I found the manual online.

It's 2 channel 40 watts per speaker, so if you only hook up one set of speakers you get 80 watts. it also has line leveloutput which means amp hookup (which I recommend) is a breeze.

Here's the deal with amps. The more you increase the volume on your stereo (past about the halfway point) the more distorted the sound becomes. VW's are very noisy environments which means you'll need to turn it up to hear it. An amplifier (nothing ridiculous) will give you much better sound at the mid-point on your volume dial.

My  2CENTS on speakers.
Run front speakers. You hear more when the sound is comiing from all directions.

Don't mount them in the door panels! Door panel is the worst place to mount a speaker. It's not a dry environment, and closing the door constantly subjects the speaker (and the door panel) to tremendous stresses which ruins them very quickly.

Don't mount them in those stupid kick panel boxes. It's already too cramped down there.

Use  GOOD 4" or 4x6" mounted up under the dash at the front firewall in custom made enclosures OR buy the enclosed speakers.

Keeps you from kicking them and  getting them all wet

BTW if your car has a body lift on it  I1t you can mount 6x9's up there with plenty of room!

Cool, thanks for the info :icon_thumleft: Was thinking of runninng enclosed speakers mounted behind front seats on seat pedestal. I know nothing about amps @7@  Anyone have a recommendation for something simple & cheap ???

Great info from Shawn, I agree with both he and greg that sound from all direction makes a huge difference, I do however disagree with the following:

I have then and they do not hamper you in any way, they sit up high and reall only fill the wasted space, they do not stick out at all at the foot level, I even had to make a 3/4inch spacer to push my speaker out since I did not run with shallow depth speakers.  I had the same mental image of the kick panel untill I sat in Jay's car and had a better understanding of how they fit.   Just my  2CENTS  I have to say I love mine.  I still get a nice sound from my Infinity speaker in the small area they use.

I was a**uming that this was about the "Brown bomber". the kick panels are not so small in a bus.
I agree the doors are a bad spot though.

the real issue with door mounts is making sure your window rubber seals perfect. otherwise the water runs down the window and drips onto the speaker. You also have to make sure that you seal the vapor barrier after installing the speakers otherwise you'll still have leaking water issues.

My mentioning the water was only a minor problem IMHO. My real problem is with what happens to them and the door panels as a result of door slams. There's nothing to mount the speakers to except the fiberboard panel. it cannot stand up to the forces imposed on it.

I was assuming he meant RatA2E. He showed the boombox setup for the bus already

Sorry for the confusion  @7@ It's for the Bus. I don't think Rata2e will be ready when the season starts. So gonna get the Bus just the way I want it so I have a ride. Plus I can take my time & not be rushed on Rata2e. Thanks to all for the help Ghug I don't want the speakers in the door panel & they won't fit under the dash as I have under dash shelves. So I figure surface mount speakers on the seat pedastals behind each front seat should work...How much amp do you think I need ???

lovebus (jack)

Bus doors have a place to mount the speakers, they bolt right to the door frame. I glued a strip of plastic film over my speakers so no water can get to them.
I don't have to go to work in the morning....
