Valve jam nut
« on: February 13, 2010, 12:54:23 am »

I can't remember if the valve jam nut is 12MM or 13MM. It's been awhile since I adjusted the valves. I see they have a nice tool for adjusting the valves (Schley Products). I thought it maybe worth having one and is it sold locally..

It's been awhile since I adjusted the valves.

It may have been awhile but it probably hasn't been 5-6000mi, they really don't need to be checked any sooner then that.

I have a little under 3,000 mile since I made my last adjustment (March of '09). It's getting a little harder because of my hands and back. I thought the valve adjustment tool my make it easier and faster. The cheapest tool I found was $35.00. For that price I'll use a wrench and screw driver.
Jack says about 5,000 mile. In that case I won't have to do it until late spring, early summer.

I do mine twice a year regardless of miles. A good tune up requires it. Better gas milage, turns over when I turn the key and gives me one less thing to worry about.
