How 'bout you tell US now! ?/banghea?/
OK
First, thats not my car in the video.
A little insight on the Screamin Zonker.
The car was I/G I-Gasser built by Jack and Art Kessel of Kessel?s VW Service in Clayton, NJ and yes, they started out in Monrowville, NJ. They campaigned the car in the NHRA, NHRA World Championship Searis (WCS) and UDRA and their home track was Atco, NJ, winning to many races to count and also winning I-Gas Class at the 1973 Summer Nats in Englishtown, NJ
The car was capable of running under the world record but we never tried to set a new one, why ruin a good thing just to have your name in a record book...We were not publicity seekers, never sent photos to any magazines or any thing like that, we just loved to rACE.
The car ran in the low 11?s at around 120MPH. Their last race was at a WCS event in Ontario Canada at Cayuga taking 2nd place. That race left a very bad taste in their mouth towards the NHRA and they never raced again.
The car was sold to a local person in Elmer, NJ and never did much after that, I don?t know what happened to the car but I do know where the engine out of it is, in my garage waiting for me to get off my lazy a** to rebuild it and put it in my street car. (o: How I came upon the engine is another story that I won?t go into now.
If I can help with any other info I?ll be glad to help. Below is a photo of back then and on my 65 birthday, 6yrs ago, I was the driver and the one on the right in the photos.
