Hello all. I wanted to let you know that I am selling my 1990 Westfalia (shown and described below). I had hoped that I would be able to keep it, but unfortunately that is not possible. I live in upstate NY and have owned this van for 4 years. It is in very good shape and runs really well. It is a great opportunity for someone to get a nice Westy for a bargain price. I am looking to get about $15,000 for it, even though I have more than that in it just from the conversion. If you would like for pictures or have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you.

1990 Vanagon Westfalia Multivan with Tiico Engine conversion done in October 2008. Since then, I have only put approximately 8,000 miles on it. I love this van and hate to see it go, but don't use it enough to justify keeping it. This van was a southern vehicle prior to my purchase of it in 2008 and it has been garage-kept from October through April each year since then. First and foremost, this van drives beautifully. As the engine has 50% more horsepower than the original VW engine, it is more than adequate on highways with speed limits of 65 and maintains its speed even up hills. The body is in very good shape, but keep in mind that it is 22 years old. There are minor blemishes and a few small dents (see photos and specifics below), but the original paint job looks very good. According to the previous owner, the van sustained damage in 1995 to the passenger-side front wheel and axle (designated as major damage). It was repaired prior to his ownership of it and neither he nor I have ever noticed any problem with the alignment or anything else related to it. However, it did result in a NC salvage title being issued. When I titled it in NY, it did not meet the criteria for a NYS salvage title so the current title is clear. The odometer reads 239,000+ miles, but that amount is approximately 100,000 OVER the actual mileage. The speedometer was replaced with a donor one during the conversion as the original one didn't work properly. The interior is clean, the pop-top canvas is still in great shape and it still has all of the original curtains (including for the windshield) and the snap-in screen for the hatchback. Now for the details:

The conversion work was completed by Transporterwerks in Raleigh, NC in October 2008. During the conversion, they did the following:
Install brand new, 2.0 liter Tiico engine, 4 cylinder, approximately 135 hp.
Replace original automatic transmission with 4-speed manual and clutch.
New blower fan.
New CV axles.
New muffler
New radiator
New rear wheel brake cylinders and shoes
New front wheel bearings
New clutch master cylinder
New brake master cylinder
New fan switches
New brake pads
New headlight adjusters
4 new tires
New starter
Total cost: $15,332.56
Other improvements:
That same year, I also installed a new Clarion DXZ585USB Stereo with Infinity speakers and an Alpine subwoofer so the sound is great also. The stereo will play CD, mp3, WMA, AAC and has a USB port for connecting an iPod, iPhone or other mp3 player directly.
Installation of 3 12-volt outlets behind the passenger's seat.

As this vehicle is 22 years old, there are some items that do not work properly. The A/C is non-functioning, nor are the power mirrors, dashboard cigarette lighter or cruise control.
There are also a few cosmetic issues that I want to make you aware of. I consider them minor, but have included pictures of all of them so that you can see for yourself. They are:
The rear headrests have a few small tears in the backs of them.
At one point, someone attempting to break into it, put a hole in the back of the driver's side-view mirror as well as a few dents in the door around it. There is also a scratch in the driver's door.
The fiberglass top has faded slightly more than the surrounding paint as has the cover over the track for the sliding door.
There is a small pucker under the passenger's side of the window on the rear door.
The hatch in the pop-top is cracked and should be replaced.
I found 2 small bits of surface rust, but both are very small (one in the rear by the pop-top and one behind the driver's front tire).
Other items included with purchase:
Brand new replacement rubber, vent-wing window seals for both driver's and passenger's front doors (purchased from Bus Depot - $49.95 each).
Volkswagen Vanagon Official Factory Repair Manual.
This is a great vehicle and drives as well as any Westy I've ridden in.. Without the camper fridge, stove and kitchen, it is nearly 500-pounds lighter than a full camper so it does great on all types of roads. The rear cabinets, plugging a powered cooler into the additional power outlets and a portable grill made camping a breeze and I never missed the kitchen. It also allows for seating for seven instead of the full camper's four. I have well over $22k into this van, so anyone looking for a well-maintained, well-powered, reliable, fun camper need look no further. And because its title is listed as "Salvage," you can probably get it at far less than it's actually worth. Please contact me with questions if you have them and bid to purchase, not just to win. This is also for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time if a local buyer commits. Thanks and happy camping!
