I looked at everything before deciding what to put out back.   In the end, being so close to the amish pole barn builders (there are a few of them) turned out to be the best deal for me.    I had them put up the shell and finished it myself, including concrete, electric, insulation, lights, air lines, bathroom etc.

I already have an old 20 by 20 slab out back. So that would be the size. Bigger is better I know #@rofl3
As my backyard backs up to a County road, I've been informed I would need a traffic study completed, a full engineering report along with a drainage plan and a gazillion dollars of permits. Dang NJ.  &(rage_

Plus I have a neighbor who has already called on me when I did my demo derby car for charity and stored it out back and he also called on me when I stored BlueBelle my vw bus out there.

Get a permit for a car port, then after it is done and approved, you then enclose the sides, all perfectly legal...  I think you can't have a roll up door, barn doors instead...
