One Step Forward Three Steps Back
« on: July 30, 2012, 10:40:57 pm »

Hey All
Ran into another snafu w/ the car. After George told me to drive her around to start breaking the engine in, I did about 10 miles and the New Clutch has gone out on me. I had to drive her home in second gear the whole way. She won't engage in any gear w/ the engine running(Brand New pressure plate T/O bearing and SACH's Disc)
I called up George and hopefully he will be able to find time to fix this problem. Like the title says "One Step Forward..." I'll keep all update. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Do you have a pedal or did it fall to the floor?

Possibly something wrong with the throwout bearing or maybe bent or broken forks? Just a thought if you have pedal.  Do the gears feel like they are in the right spot... meaning when you move your shifter does it feel like first is where first used to be and second where second used to be or does it feel like you're not moving the shifter the same amount forward and back like you used to?

All the gears fall in the same place with the engine 0ff no problem depressing clutch and putting her into gear as long as shes not running. All throws seem to be same distance.

Was the clutch cable adjusted at all, new clutch plate might warrant turning the wingnut some if your old one was really worn.  You should have about three quarters of an inch or so of empty pedal before you feel resistance.  If it's still set up to the old clutch it would probably be set way too tight

I'll have to wait and see if George Gallagher can help me out, a disability curtails what I can do under the car
Thanks so much for your input. George did adjust the cable the last time I saw him that was when he said I should start driving her to break in the new engine. I hope George can help with this dilemna
