Check the serial # on the pan. It may be a newer pan under the '63 body? Auto stick started in '68?

Thanks Bob.  The pan # matches the body #, unless they changed one of them?   The body # is a riveted plate  in the right front fender and the chassis # is a small square tab on the hump under the rear seat.  Is that number usually on an added tab on the hump, or actually stamped into the hump?  I could take and post a picture of it tomorrow.   It looks pretty original, not a later transfer.   The trans is a 3 speed true automatic.  Is it possible to switch wheels from wide five 4 lug on an older pan?

Edit:  I just looked on the Samba and found a picture of a chassis vin plate for a Type 3.  Mine looks the same.  At first it appeared as if it was a blank tab, but I used a wire brush on a drill and was able to reveal the number, same as the one on the body tab.

Putting the car up for sale or trade.  After inspection it's more than I can, or want to, tackle right now.  I'd love to see it stay local if someone has something to trade!!!
