Yup, I broke my piggy bank, scrounged the final monies from under the couch cushions, went over to o' NJ and picked up the folding bug tent..
Met Bruce the seller, very nice guy, had a long talk with him. Seems he worked for VW and one of his jobs was to evaluate many of the accessories available for the VW beetle for VW dealerships.
He told me usually one VW in each VW dealership showroom had one of these tents displayed on a bug, and the tents selling like hotcakes - with syrup.
Asking about this tent, he said he happened to be in a dealership ( closing?) when he saw this in the back room, it was used in one of the displays.
He was saying they were getting rid of a lot of things, so he decided to grab this one. It has never been used. thumpup)- thumpup)- thumpup)-
It has an outer yellow sort -of-vinyl cover which has wear -through in places on it's side(s) -
Bruce said it was from him dragging it around when he had to move it especially from his garage to shed.
That is a shame as it would have been perfect!
- nevertheless, as these were only sold in the 70's it is in very great shape over all! clap2-* .
Unfolded the tent briefly at Bruce's place, and the tent does look like it is brand new. thumpup)-
bigger than what I thought thumpup) - thumpup)- . very tall, great room, and looks WAY COOL!
The outer cover was really grungy from sitting around - I spent close to 3 hours cleaning it, still not done - here are just a few rags...

- I then called it quits, - got tired of cleaning the cover, and had to come in and cook dinner anyway... eat.gi+]
I received the ladder, the mounts to the car, and the rear platform structure - which will need very very minor work.
The tent platform is pretty bulky-heavy, - 6'9" H, little over 4' wide..
I hope to have more time to work on it tomorrow which is unlikely as I have a huge plumbing job starting up. But will post more pics when I can.
Talked to Bruce about joining the club, he is retired, and says he might just check the club out, he seems to still be into VW's very much.
Leaving Bruce's house strapped the tent on the top of the Jeep and drove 5 miles to Jack's house for a hello -
Well, .......actually I tried to crash his Thanksgiving dinner, but I was too early (but at least I got the day right!).
Nevertheless, JoAnne kindly invited me to stay for their 20 pounder bird, but I did not want to get in a position where I may find myself between Jack and the turkey - that could be bad.
So will post more pics as things unfold...(pun intended). and Bruce gave me a packet containing "trailer information" I have not gone through it yet, but will in about 5 minutes.

Thanks to all who helped direct this to me for my attentions byeby., , it will come in very handy, & maybe no more tent raising harassment for me!...?

The outside cover is very misleading to what is inside **woohoo
