Thought I would share this.
« on: January 01, 2013, 12:47:49 pm »

Jack,

I enjoy watching the info you have on u-tube and your club's activties.-  I wish I lived closer and was able to join the fun.

About me & my son & our vw family:  I'm 58 and my son is 24.   Back when I was 17, I got into vw bugs. I lived in Gary, Indiana then and worked at an automotive machine shop.

We mainly supported all the local drag racer--the the dune buggy craze hit.  Our shop loaded up with vw valve jobs and motor rebuilds.

They trained me to handle all the vw work in our shop.  Long story short..due bad feet legs many operations at 18, I had to find another path--Started working for a family owned tool ten years of night school working my engineering degree--no time for v-dubs..

In 1992 we lived in Columbus, Ohio and on my sons 3rd birthday I procured a 1970 bug for $100.00.  It was my son's play fort, swing-set--but more importantly--his Herbie..

He fell in love with vw bugs and Herbie, now at 24 he still has the same passion.  He wanted this car on the road--I had the skills but not the place or time--sold the car and then found a 1978 Triple White Special Edition Model--which he has still today.

Wow back then little did i know this was the beginning of Love's and their bug's. Our last name is Love.

When my son was 12 we pulled his car off the pan and did a four year rebuild..Our only rule was to do ALL the work . There was only two items we  did not do--install the new convertible top and polishing the crank.   A friend let us use his stuff to do the valve job--grinding the valves & seats new valve guides..

All the parts came from America--Mike Yager and my son partnered together and to this day are good friends we never miss Mike's FUNFEST event every June.  Jake would send Mike up-dates and he would post them around his shop--everyone knew my son . Out of respect for Mike his plates on his 1978 bug FUNFEST..

After the four year project I was ready for another. They just came out with the new Herbie Fully-load NASCAR movies my son and his older sister wanted me to make them NASCAR Herbie  Iowa being vw poor we found a 1970 bug and two years later it was done.

Current project my 67 split-window bus--next will be my 57 bug and the another bus a 64 if I'm still kicking .

My son lives with me lost his mom three year ago --the vw projects keep me going..

We name are cars 1978 vert "Sally"  , 1970 Bug "NASCAR Herbie"  My 1967 BUS "Smoking Wheelie" , MY 1957 Bug "Pulaus" my dad's middle name--Next my 1964 Bus "Sarge" --MY sons 1963 bug "Rubin" My wife's 1973 bug now my duagthers Prices.

Other vw that no-longer live with us..Rusty a 1960 bug--Rocko a 1978 bus..SunCat 1972 bug and  two ghia's a 1965 & 1974 Baxter and short-timer.

Again Jack enjoy the sjvwc u-tube posting happy new year

Nice story. It's great to know that there are other people out there with the same passion we all share. Best of luck to all in the new year. Jack I think this makes it all worth it to share your knowledge!   thumpup)-
