We knew it had to happen sooner or later, hopefully not for another decade, but reports we are now receiving is that Volkswagen of Brazil has ceased production of the magnesium engine case. Since air-cooled Beetle (so-called Classic Beetle) production ceased back in 2002 in Mexico, the demand for these OEM cases has been on the decline. And even though the air-cooled industry outside of the VW's own production, needs these replacement cases, VW has made the decision to stop production. What this means to you and me is that one, the price of existing new mag cases still in the pipeline will skyrocket, and two, the demand for the after-market aluminum case will now be our main source of a replacement. So if you are planning to build a street engine and must have an OEM magnesium case, you better put your order in now, before the supply dries up.
