New Fire Safety For your Ride
« on: August 04, 2013, 06:37:37 am »

I saw this new cool new product. It's an inexpensive Fire Suppression System for your Bus, Van or what have you.

I have been looking at fire suppression systems for awhile, and they get pricey. This Baby fits the wallet much better and is less involved and does the job.

If your not aware of the dangers of a rear engine car catching fire it's more common then one may expect. Keeping in mind that the engine is behind you so often at times a fire may ignite and unbeknown to the driver till it's fully a blaze. Whereas If the engine was in front we'd see it almost instantly. But the problem with Bus's and Vans are that they become almost fully engulfed in a raging fire thus almost always an entire Lost!

This New System is inexpensive easy to install and a True VW Saver.. The investment is well worth the peace of mind, let alone a Camper saver.

This is a great idea and I am seriously considering one for the bus.  I would feel so much better knowing that the whole bus would not be totaled if a fire did occur.  I will still carry an extinguisher, but for 2 hundy I will feel at ease that my bus wouldn't be BBQ'd.  Great find Jay! thumpup)-

but what about those of us that don't own buses? I wouldn't be sure where to mount something like that.

but would the suppressant go on the rear of the engine or mostly behind the fan? I guess with the lid closed it wouldn't matter.

I'm going to get one of these, chit with my heard I need 1\2 dozen but have been seriously searching for an automatic suppression system but the Nascar ones are too expensive, even the out of date ones are pricy. That's when I stumbled on the BlazeCut automatic Suppression System.

My 1st thoughts were. This thing looks too simple to work.

This BlazeCut fits the bill while helping to save your ride. I do know that there are a few members who have had an engine fire, they were lucky to get it under control quickly.

Most often when we have a fire we'll totally unaware as it's under and behind us and we'll totally unaware until it's full ablaze, which most likely would be too late to save anything but yourselves, anyway. And if you own a Van / Bus the problem worsens because the fire is fuel feed under the deck lid and intensifying by the time you get to your rear hatch, then even more time to get all your chit out of the van to open the hatch cover. That's about the time even if you could get that close that as soon as you open your engine cover the fire leaps upwards into your face.  Plus even if you can grab your extinguisher how you gone to spray or fan the fire without opening your engine cover, besides how many of us have actually tested our extinguishers to even know if they work. Or for that mater how many of us renews or buys a new fire extinguisher every few years... Actually the more I think about my fire extinguisher I'm thinking that it would be about useless for one of the full blown van  fires, besides probably being to small to handle the engulfed flames.

Another hint.. Did you know that a few times a year you should turn your fire extinguisher upside down and smack the bottom of it a few good hits with a rubber mallet. Often times the extinguishers contents will settle inside forming a thickened settled base that renders the contents very limited.

As for mounting, most VW guys who have Vans / Bus's will mount the Blaze-Cut to the underside of they engine head lid or around the deck lid outer frame.

For Bugs etc. I think that it could be mounted in a similar manor kind of in a U-Shape. It could probably also be painted to help blend with the inter side of your deck Lid.

Some Sad endings to Engine fires.. And these are only a few of the many, many VW fires that occur far to often.

It's a great investment. Ill keep me from doing yearly fuel line changes... Because I am paranoid of my bus catching fire.

Their website says: "The FE-36 clean extinguishing agent does not leave a residue, conduct electricity, corrode or cause shock damage."

I'm wondering how to mount it in a bug.
