I'm going to get one of these, chit with my heard I need 1\2 dozen but have been seriously searching for an automatic suppression system but the Nascar ones are too expensive, even the out of date ones are pricy. That's when I stumbled on the BlazeCut automatic Suppression System.
My 1st thoughts were. This thing looks too simple to work.
This BlazeCut fits the bill while helping to save your ride. I do know that there are a few members who have had an engine fire, they were lucky to get it under control quickly.
Most often when we have a fire we'll totally unaware as it's under and behind us and we'll totally unaware until it's full ablaze, which most likely would be too late to save anything but yourselves, anyway. And if you own a Van / Bus the problem worsens because the fire is fuel feed under the deck lid and intensifying by the time you get to your rear hatch, then even more time to get all your chit out of the van to open the hatch cover. That's about the time even if you could get that close that as soon as you open your engine cover the fire leaps upwards into your face. Plus even if you can grab your extinguisher how you gone to spray or fan the fire without opening your engine cover, besides how many of us have actually tested our extinguishers to even know if they work. Or for that mater how many of us renews or buys a new fire extinguisher every few years... Actually the more I think about my fire extinguisher I'm thinking that it would be about useless for one of the full blown van fires, besides probably being to small to handle the engulfed flames.
Another hint.. Did you know that a few times a year you should turn your fire extinguisher upside down and smack the bottom of it a few good hits with a rubber mallet. Often times the extinguishers contents will settle inside forming a thickened settled base that renders the contents very limited.
As for mounting, most VW guys who have Vans / Bus's will mount the Blaze-Cut to the underside of they engine head lid or around the deck lid outer frame.
For Bugs etc. I think that it could be mounted in a similar manor kind of in a U-Shape. It could probably also be painted to help blend with the inter side of your deck Lid.
Some Sad endings to Engine fires.. And these are only a few of the many, many VW fires that occur far to often.
