Jack's Garage
« on: March 11, 2014, 08:36:12 pm »

I've been chatting with Claire over in London. She & the family are doing well after about a year. Anyway she told me about an amazing local shop.

The bottom picture looked like my bus on the lift!

For the newbies, who's Claire?

"Claire H" has a Champagne Westy named RoadRunner.

Her husband was transferred to UK on business. She and their two boys are with him. Be there for four more years.
Then they come back. Probably with something rare & Right-Hand drive  **^bana0

She can help us get "unobtainable" parts. PM me if youre looking for something

hmm...
Maybe. How much do they cost?
I was trying to figure out a way to mount a bicycle rack like the ones on the front of the Septa buses.
I have a an older version of this bike rack
http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1122106_-1_400170__400170
I wonder if a cross piece could be welded to the roo bar under the bumper with a receiver?
Or would it not be strong enough?
I didn't really like the receiver that mounted to the tow eyes.

I didn't see any for sale on The Samba, but I found a post where people were talking about them. they had a picture that may even be that same brown bus, but I'm not sure. Anyways, i think it looks kind of weird from the side with the tire so far forward like that.
I kind of like this one because it tucks back closer to the body.

Thats easy... Spare tire mounted bike rack

I wouldn't worry about something sticking out a foot or two...
Cars have 6' long front ends the bus' is 6". it has no bearing on driveability

I'm more worried about it looking weird than affecting drivability.
I don't really like the pieces that go around the headlights either. I don't think my bus has a nerdy personality that goes with the Sponge Bob glasses.
But if something could be made for a reasonable price that tucks back closer to the body that was basically the middle piece with a tire mount, and a receiver under the bumper I'll start pondering it.

How much do you think something like that would be, and who fabricates such stuff?
