Covered Bridge Cruise Question

I just came across a covered bridge cruise in Bucks Co that would allow us, Shawn you'll have to bring love bus, 10 covered bridges! My question is, would to rather stick with the cruise out to Lancaster with the one bridge we were able to drive through or the 10? Also there is tubing nearby for the campers/tubers and we would be able to visit the hot dog man on the Delaware river!

Both cruises wound end at a place to eat and camp for those who want to camp

I saw Katies covered bridge tour scheduled for late July so thought this would be good motivation

I set a date this Thrs/Fri with Ted to improve the Lancaster run  (Katie covered bridge tour), as a bridge was missed early on.  I can't remember, but there are 10 - 12 covered bridges on this tour.  We only got to one, due to a late start.....

I want to pick up more scenic back roads by the Brandywine river, before grabbing this earlier bridge.

Because the first outing with the club lasted quite long and only got to one bridge, ( in part due to an unexpected breakfast hence a later start than what I had planned), I was thinking the next cruise could include  ( this same breakfast if desired) and camp-out in Lancaster county in Amish-land - (I picked out one or 2 sites) . So it would be a Sat tour of the back roads of NE Pa, then to Lancaster, then to Strausburg where most of the covered bridges are.

On Sat, In Strausburg, igured could do horse/buggy rides t and there is a steam locomotive museum which is  fantastic. I believe there may be a clock museum near that, which I heard is way cool - . There is also a popular/tourist market thing, which is nice to attend  tons of free samples from a lot of the foods the Amish make... mostly cheeses and jellies, sausages, etc- If some are interested, there is also an Amish working farm to visit ( have to pay) and a short movie talking about Amish life, and history.    Also there is the ability to eat dinner while riding on the steam train, I checked into it and found it rather expensive tho'.  All of these things are possible on Sat.  Sun everything is closed... which is bad, and good!

On Sat, Considering to pick up Shady Maple Smorgasbord - it is somewhat near the area, this is one of the best buffets one can commit suicide on.  Steaks, roast beef, chicken dishes, specialty dishes, lots of diff breads, cheeses, veggies, deserts etc, etc, etc, etc and etc. The place is huge, and the food is very, very good.  This is only half of of the setup. Guess they took the pic before everyone entered, or else you would never get this clear view 

(However, if you eat a big breakfast you can't eat everything here......)

Regardless,  after camping Sat, I was thinking Sunday would be the day to do the rest of the brides, this would be good as all of the tourists will be gone as all the Amish stores, etc are closed, the roads would/should be very much empty which makes driving easier, and have great views of the Amish farms etc.  Should see a number of buggies on the road as the Amish travel to and from church. 

Sorry have not been on the boards much, work is taking a lot of time up, more than ever, and been doing some traveling.

Let me know what the decision is.....  If you decided on the bucks tour, I will not map this one out






I was initially thinking of doing this in the fall as the fall trees are  incredible in color, less traffic and cooler camping weather, but I can stick to the July schedule.

Matt the only thing is id like to get all the bridges in on Saturday for the non camper people. Right now it's leaning towards bucks co. I'm going give it one last week of push and I'll make a decision by next Monday.

Amish country is fantastic! I agree with Matt, after Labor Day is better, less traffic. Shady Mable is awesome. The farmers market is great for home made everything. Forget the cover bridges, the back roads are great and lots of scenery. Where else can you go and see some one harvesting there crops with four horses.

Is prefer to do Bucks Co. in the summer because it's close to a place to go tubing. Though I haven't checked for tubing in Lancaster.

  Ted and I ran most of the course Thr.s,  grabbed a close covered bridge ( only 1 mile from my house  #banghead) - because of this added new roads..  Early on in the trip added some very new scenic, and challenging roads, one with good extreme hair pin turns,   bugey-- others gravel ( have to make sure one is legal  *)copcar.   One road did not try one called "Tapeworm Road" as thought it was too shaky, but am going back to  see how it is.
  We got a late start so did not check out all of the bridges up in Lancaster, but found one that was omitted earlier due to damage was repaired  :jump4jo": & they really did a good job on it.   Bridges have to be checked out each season, as "they" close some for maintenance or damage, and am wondering if others we did not get to are still in commission.  Every-time a bridge is out, my map has to be re-routed to keep "the flow" going well.

  To fit in the buffet ( if interested), and to make sure all or more bridges are available, I need to do another run up there -

I still think doing this in the fall would be  much better and spectacular -but  whatever is decided.

Cool that Bucks county has its own set of bridges also to check out, did not know that, be best to map them out Greg, if you did not already do that...

   I know it is very unlikely that I can  make another run up to Lancaster before the end of July due to some weekend obligations, to dp a final bridge check, campground check and some other things I had in mind ( I think it is possible to rent a room in an Amish house for those people who may want a change from being in a tent   whistleegi or a even break from being in a bus   whistleegi whistleegi

So no problem with the Bucks being done, mine would have to be done around Fall time or as Howard said after Labor Day, but am not sure if people would be up for 2 bridge tours in one year in Pa. - (although they are in diff locations) -   If that is the case, I can do the Lancaster one the following year if people are still interested.    I could just schedule it in the calendar for early Fall and see what interest there is.

However, if the Bucks and Lancaster runs use the exact same bridges, not sure if anyone would be interested in doing it 2x even a year apart.  :confused04:;
