Guys,

I found a very interesting web site about "Big daddy Ed Roth". Seems many of his cars were VW powered. He also was the first to start the VW trike craze. This guy was really interesting with his weird sense of humor and the "one off" fiberglass customs he built. In some ways he really was the first "Rat Rodder" with his Rat Fink creations.

check this out and enjoy, I did! - http://www.mrgasser.com/default.htm

Cool Stuff.  Also not sure how many guys know that Jessie James started his car life with VW's and him and Sandra Bullock still owns and buys many VDubs. When Louie was in So-cal I was told that he was inquiring about it?

Ok. So I'm missing and have a few loose screws, but those are only in my head

Jessie is cool but I could never see the Sandra Bullock thing ??  ???
shes a hotie and Jessies last wife was in porno - go figure?

Seinfelds vw collection is supposed to be crazy and I read somewhere Alice Cooper ( 70's rocker for you old farts! ) is also a vdub fan. Guess those folks know good cars when they see em!

Roth was amazing, if you read the intro on that site it tells how they would do all the design work in plaster and then cover that with fiberglass cloth & resin. Finally they would have to chip the plaster out and smooth the glass body by hand. I'd have to think that would be the hardest way to build something considering what a mess the
glassing would make plus the itchy glass fibers.

I remember reading that Roth also added real fish scales to clear paint just to get a "pearl" effect. Today we've got it really good since we can get any type of finish you can imagine by just opening a can of paint. Makes you think what pioneers these guys were!

don't for get Barris, Art Himsel, & Watson. Did you ever see Monster garage when Jessie brings together all the greats and they do a Chevy led sled? It was amazing how these guys ( mostly over 70 ) just knew what and where to cut. In the end it was a real beauty and one of the best cars on that show.

had to think about that one all night! that was Gene Winfield, the old guy with the leather coat & cigar.

lead is tough, I saw a guy work a fender around 30 years ago and the trick was to get the heat just right, you only get 1 shot at swiping the lead on. thats a lost art if there ever was one!
