About a year & 1/2 ago I bought a 1970 type1 pan from Clarence in Riverside who has since closed up shop. When I bought it he promised me that he would supply me with a title. Any way I had pretty much given up all hope that I would get the title. In todays mail I received an Alabama Bill of Sale & Registration for the pan. Prior to 1974 Alabama did not require titles only a bill of sale. Now I can take the paper work to NJDMV & get a NJ title. Not sure what I'm gonna build yet but it's going to have a Primo pan under it.  BO**  weldface

Mark,

you might want to call Trenton before you go to the local DMV office. Eddie Irrizarry ( Dune Buggy Eddie ) has a Ghia that needed a title and he got one through a title service in Alabama. The local DMV gave him a bunch of crap because it didn't have an "original owners signature". He had to ship it back and have the title service notarize it and add a signature. Don't know if this is standard for every office or just the locals trying to be difficult.

Hey fresh pan, like a blank slate! good luck don't have any idea what I'd build but would be fun trying!

Have you ever heard of a VW kit car called a "Veep", all metal Jeep body with a tube frame. Looks like a scaled down CJ and very cool ! Your Jeep project had me thinking.

QuoteIt's a kit called a Veepster.

Someplace in my "pile of VW literature" I've got an original sales brochure for that one. Too bad the company went out of business years ago. I've seen fiberglass and some metal CJ bodies and always thought if somebody was handy enough it wouldn't take much to shrink one down to fit a box tube frame with all vw suspension and running gear.

The bill of sale is notorized & signed by the owner as well as his signature on the Alabama registration plus a letter from the judge of probate for Marshall County Alabama stating that prior ro 1974 Alabama did not have vehicle titles. So hopefully I'm good to go. Going to DMV Friday. Will let you all know how it turn out... Yes I know about the Veep but seeing as I have a real Jeep I'm thinking long wheel base Dune Buggy. Figure I'll keep the pan bone stock & thier will be no welds to in the pan to inspect. May make it a lot easyer come inspection time

I’m gonna leave my personal feelings out of this because they are real ugly & Jack would be rightfully obliged to delete the post.

Well here’s what went down at DMV. I was taken to an office where a plain cloths State Trooper advised me as follows. “We both know that you did not buy this car in Alabama”. “Luckily for you we do not prosecute these cases”. “I’ve entered this vin. # in our system and you will never be able to obtain a title for it in NJ”

thats wrong! way wrong!!
Its none of their steeking business where you got the car. If you really did buy it in alabama would they still try that crap? I doubt it! Think its time to call Trenton and see if you can get clear decision. It sounds like they are making up the rules as they go along and if its not stolen then whats the problem??  How many street rods are running around with this type of title?

Mark.. That's a real Bummer.... And as much as you might not want to hear this.. But I was afraid of this happening and even mentioned to Jack that you may have troubles, I meant to post a reply to your mention of going to Trenton today and warn you that you may have a problem with that Al Title. The word on the streets is that Trenton was clamping down on these title attempts, Broadway titles etc included. Also another bad choice was to attempt to go to Trenton on Black Friday... This day was originally a State Holiday but our wonderful Governor rescinded this Holiday from the State Work Force so perhaps in their minds they were taking out self justice on whomever they could, where and when they could.

You my friend just so happened to walk into the hornets nest.    !fright!

Sorry Dude. We feel for you and I'm sure that any of us would be  &m& too.

B.T.W. There are ways around these problems, but it is now compounded by the fact that the F'ed up State of NJ has your VIN number... Double Bummer.  .///
